Shortening a show coat? Or shortest coat brand?

Does anyone have any experience shortening a show coat? I’m vertically challenged and even the short sized coats are a bit too long. I have an RJ classic (not tech fabric) and was hoping to get it shortened about 2 inches without ruining the coat.

Also, does anyone know if certain brands run shorter than others?

Any suggestions/advice for a shorty would be appreciated!! Thanks!

I ordered a Grand Prix Techlite through Farm House in a short length b/c regular coats were too long for me.

I had a RJ Classic “regular” coat too that was marked short but it was too long. The Grand Prix short is a much better fit for me.

I have them done at a tailor’s - she hand tacks them up because my daughter is growing and sometimes I let them back down. Costs about $25 per coat, well worth it.

Sorry to derail OP, can’t find an answer using the search function.

For hunter/jumper, what is the ideal length of coat?

I’m only 5’4’’ and the Grand Prix Techlite’s regular size fit me with no alteration.

Had to shorten the RJ Classics technical fabric coat’s length and sleeves. Cost $20 and it came out nicely.

I’m 5ft1 and find that Pikeurs and Cavalleria fit me perfectly. Cavalleria are stupid expensive but I lucked out and found one for $100 (reg $850) as it was “last years colour”!!

I am 5’0" and have had coats shortened by a tailor.

I’m 5’4" and I’ve always fit in regular length coats until I got an RJ and I have to have a short in that brand.

I would think that a tailor could address that relatively easily.

But with that being said, I have a Spooks show coat and it’s by far the shortest jacket I own…and that’s in comparison to Animo, Grand Prix, Pikeur, and several other brands in a variety of styles.

Thanks for the advice! I think I’ll look into some other brands before altering my current coat.
