Shorter Ladies (<5'5'') : How tall are you, and how tall is your horse?

5ft1.5" (yes every little bit counts!) - I’m not built to ride, short legs long torso built to rotate like the gymnast I was so when I fall I fall well! :lol:

1st mare was 15-2 and would jump the moon, she was awesome but a spitfire!; 2nd mare was 15-1 with shoes on (a little paint, bomb proof and suited her name, Dolly, she was a Doll and is now a school horse teaching novice riders); 3rd mare was 15-3 and a pro ride, wouldn’t wish her on my worst enemy; current horse…my first gelding, has just grown to 16-1 and is awesome, but it seems like a long way down! :winkgrin:

Just under 5’5" - slender build. Current mount is 16.1, maybe 16.2, slender TB. We are a nice fit. For me, it’s all about my leg and how well it fits the horse.

When I was looking for horses I tried a huge 17 hander and could barely keep up posting with his stride. :no:

5’2" (and a half) and my preference is about 16-16.2hh with fairly slender body (what I’m currently on). However I’ve shown a large pony on up to a couple 17hh horses (and regularly rode one that was 17.3 but I definitely looked like a pea on a drum!).

4’8" - With short legs and petite. Current mount is a 12.3 welsh cross, but have ridden anything up to 16.2. For myself and my build I do most prefer the 14hh range!

5’4 1/2" both are TB’s one is 17h and the other is 16h. I’m a trainer though so I ride every size.

I’m a hair under 5’3", and my mare is about 16hh, give or take an inch. I can’t remember exactly what she came up as when we sticked her before I bought her. She is a very quarter horse-y appendix. My last fellow was a 17hh TB who was very burly (for lack of a better word) and strong, and I like the smaller size of my current girl better. I love riding ponies, too. There is a small that I school pretty regularly, and a couple of larges.

I don’t like riding anything over 15. I am afraid of heights.

I’m 5’3" but have more leg than torso. Retired mare is a 17.1 narrow-built TB (never raced), former lease horse was a narrow-built 16.2 OTTB, and my current baby is a solid bodied 16.3. I personally like the taller horses, but I can fit on just about anything except small ponies.
