I have my mare in an Amerigo Octave for jumping which if I understand correctly is for short, flat, cob-ish backs. I was wondering if anyone knows if there’s an Amerigo analogue/built on the same tree for dressage? Just as a starting point for myself. I have a question out to Amerigo but haven’t heard back from them
The Amerigo Pasubio is designed for shorter backs. I have one for my horse. They’re not necessary for flatest of backs though.
Contact Jen Scholz at SL Saddles. She will be able to tell you exactly what you need. She a repair person and a fitter coordinator for them.
FWIW with my most recent Amerigo fit and purchase experience, I tried Jen. She sent me a saddle and then completely disappeared and didn’t respond to emails anymore. I sent the saddle back, with photos showing the fit (it didn’t quite work) and I would’ve been open to trying something else from her, but there was just…silence. Maybe she had something come up, I don’t know.
You might look into the HC, which stands for high croup, but it’s really meant more for baroque type shorter backed horses, not necessarily butt high. I think there are jumping and dressage models.
I have the Vega for my very short backed horse that works quite well
I just bought a Pasubio for my Andalusian mare - she has a moderate wither and a curvy, short back and she hated it. I’m so bummed, I really thought it would work. I had a trusted independent fitter evaluate it and flock it for her and it looked great. For the first week her canter felt great, she was really lifting through her shoulders, but a few more weeks went by and she didn’t want to move forward and the backs of her trapezius muscles had knots. Stopped using the saddle and she went back to her normal self. I wondered if it was because of the forward balance point. Of course, I loved the saddle
I’m about to part with my Pasubio too. My horse has gotten too wide for it and just changed too much (he’s 4, so not all that shocking). I don’t think anything Amerigo will work for him now. I’m bummed because I love them. He’s just too wide in the withers and at the base of his withers. He’s also become very flat in his back. That brand just doesn’t make a saddle for that, IME. You might be experiencing a similar issue? Their saddles don’t stay wide enough throughout the entire withers and at the base of the either where many (not all) Andalusians need it.
Some horses may not like the forward balance point or how the weight is distributed. Some might do better in a gusseted panel.
My horse hated a different saddle that we had even though it was a textbook fit. It was to the point that he’d move away when I’d go to saddle him. There was nothing wrong with it. Who knows
I forgot to mention that my Holsteiner goes in the Equipe Elegance which is actually designed for baroque horses. Equipes are made in the same factory as Amerigo. And they now have some flocked panel options.
