I’ve had good luck with rice bran, but there really is nothing better than starting with a baseline of as much good quality hay as you can get. Great to hear you are going to be able to up her hay intake.
Just to clarify, she gets fed hay twice a day and her bucket once a day. I have doubled the high fat food and she is on 2 lbs a day now, next week will be 3 and so on until we get to the max.
BM has since increased the hay amount. I may have to add some alfalfa hay because she is eating non-stop and not gaining weight. So frustrating!

How quickly does she go through her hay? It may seem like she’s getting a lot, but if she’s scarfing it down and looking for more, it’s not enough. I think that you can increase the high fat complete feed more quickly than 1 lb/week – you’re not changing the feed so the gut bacteria are already used to what she’s eating. 2 lbs of a complete feed is not very much at all.
Free feed alfalfa hay will put weight on better then any high fat complete feed will.Getting better weight gain with just hay then i did with feed. My 7 year old looks way better in just a few weeks on free choice alfa and some grass/alfa mix hay.
Also on pasture some too.
