Should my tack match? (BP to Bridle)

Wanted to try the Dyon tack as my last fancy bridle fell apart when I used unapproved oil on it /eyeroll. My daughter has a new horse with a huge jump and his saddle slides back. Previous owner always rode him with a BP. We got a fancy stitched Dyon bridle but matched it with a plain breastplate instead of the fancy raised. They did not have one at the store, and I was sort of thinking I wanted the breastplate to blend in rather than stand out with pretty stitching. Horse is a pretty liver chestnut. The bridle didn’t fit so we are going back to the store to exchange it, and I’m wondering if I should swap out the BP for a fancy stitched one too.

I’m using a cheap BP I picked up at Dover but it isn’t very nice (for showing). So we have not used the new tack yet. I was also interested in the Dyon BP that does not go over the neck - just attaches to the saddle - but my trainer said they did not work as well as the over the neck ones.

Any thoughts?

Hi! I love my Dyon tack. First of all, they do make a BP that bridges over the neck (I have one!). You may just have to look around. Edited to say: sorry, I re-read the OP and realized you weren’t really asking this. I do agree with your trainer that the ones that just go to saddle aren’t as “solid”. I think it’s really all just personal preference.

I personally think you can’t tell if it’s fancy stitched vs not, but the brand and color should match IMO. Edgewood should go with Edgewood, Dyon with Dyon. Be careful too as Dyon started doing chrome as well as brass finishes, so if you’re into matching, make sure you double check that!

My horse is also chestnut :). Here are a couple pics - you can zoom in on the BP to see what I mean.

OH my gosh your boy is so gorgeous I can’t even see the tack!!! You two are a lovely pair.

I didn’t mention it, but I did get the Dyon plain BP. Just fancy bridle, plain BP. I can’t tell if yours is plain or raised. Is it plain? Looks super.

Funny you ask, because I don’t even know! I zoomed in and it looks plain on the sides, but I swear there is stitching where it bridges. Reins are fancy stitched for sure. I’m very type A and I guess that didn’t even occur to me?! So I’m thinking if that’s all you can find, it’s very hard to tell and shouldn’t make a big difference in the overall look.

And thank you! I do love her :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Happy shopping!

As long as the color is roughly the same I don’t think it matters. I ride with the opposite situation - my breastplate has the fancy stitching but my bridle doesn’t, otherwise they match. I liked the clips on the fancy-stitch breastplate better than the plainer one they offered so that’s what I went with. You honestly can’t tell unless you’re up really close, and even then I doubt anyone but me has noticed.
