Should there be an age requirement for horses competing at 3* and up?

After watching Kentucky today and hearing them proudly announce how “this horse is only 8” etc for what seemed like countless times.
It really brings a thought to my mind.
SHOULD these horses be competing at these levels at such a young age?
Are they mentally and physically ready for such big courses?

TheFEI minimum age requirement is actually 7 for the 4* level and 9 for 5*.

Edited because I looked at the wrong rules

There IS a rule about the horse’s age
edited because I had the wrong year’s rules. Here are the 2025 rules.

503.4.d
"CCI5*level Competitions and Four star Level Championships: a Horse may compete in
Competitions of five star level or four star Championship from the beginning of the
calendar year in which the Horse reaches the age of nine. "
