Show Attire

For showing intro at a schooling show, I would just get what will later become your clinic/lesson attire. Wear your existing boots, and get some light-colored breeches and a nice polo shirt. I’ve found several polo-style golf shirts at TJMaxx/Marshall’s for like $10-15 apiece, and they look sharp. One is white with black piping on the collar, and nice vented panel on the shoulders. Wore it with light gray breeches when coats were waived last summer, and did not look out of place amongst the fancy people on their warmbloods. However, many of them were wearing the long-sleeved sun shirts, which look very sharp as well.

For a fall schooling show last year I showed at TL wearing an UnderArmour white turtleneck under a fitted navy vest, with the gray breeches. Looked neat and clean, and I scored well, so, I’d say it was fine.

ETA: Can’t stand stock ties, so I’ve vowed to only wear them for recognized shows. I just wear a shirt that has a 1/4 zip and standup collar and it looks fine. Less to fuss with, and potentially have flopping around getting in the way.

Two second some earlier comments and add some thoughts: White breeches do not have to have white seat - in fact I look for ones that have some contrast because I’m just not into all that white… These are my favorite, not see thru and great fabric for Florida. https://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/ovation-aqua-x-full-seat-breech-205644?fee=1&fep=68934&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz6PnBRCPARIsANOtCw0YLJi6y7G3U0caIQHPovx8s05f80K9HqOkt1YnM0lbgibebGRRg04aAureEALw_wcB

Also - you can wear stand up collar w/ no stock tie even above 4th level . I hate stock ties. I did get fussy about the type of stand up collar - some of the lower end ones the fabric is too nylon-like and so the collar doesn’t stand up enough for my tastes. They were also not very high on the nect. I bought one with a print fabric on the inside of collar that doesn’t show unless you want it to and it adds some heft to the collar. It was pushing $100, dont remember the brand but something like this would work. https://www.farmhousetack.com/tuffrider-ladies-kirby-kwik-dry-short-sleeve-show-shirt/

Bought a pair of Treadstep Symphony Nero II breeches in navy. I was surprised because Treadstep’s pants have always fit me weird and these were by far the best of the bunch I dragged into the dressing room. Maybe the “II” means that Treadstep figured out the design of their pants is weird and changed it? For the heck of it I tried a $200 pair of Pikeur that had gotten good reviews online. They fit OK. Not well enough to inspire me to slap down $200. (Not that I have that kind of $ for breeches, anyway!) I’ll order a shirt online. Didn’t see any I liked in the stores.

The Tack Exchange had a couple pairs of pristine-looking Konig boots which I just had to try on over the protestations of my whining children  One pair looked like they’d never been worn even though they were old enough that “Made in West Germany” was stamped inside. Both pairs were too wide and too tall in the calf for me. But nice to know that the online size charts are correct and that at least one boot maker regards my “athletic” calves as normal and not freakishly wide like Parlanti and Ariat.

*If anybody is looking for boots and is a Women’s size 8-8.5 and taller than 5’2, you might want to take a look. I’ve never seen any Konig boots at the Tack Exchange before. All the sudden there are 3-4 pairs. Maybe someone is downsizing?
