Show Coat for Broad Shoulders

Hi All!

I am searching for a new show coat, but I am having a hard time finding the right fit. The coats that fit my shoulders comfortably have all been way too big everywhere else so far. Does anyone have any brand suggestions for coats that will accommodate broader shoulders and will look nice, but not break the bank?

Thank you all!

I have the same problem. I ended up getting an RJ Classics that fit my shoulders and got the rest tailored. I believe the arm length was okay for me, but added a 4th button because my torso is so long.

I have a motion light that is a bit stretchy that fits my shoulders great but like initiate, I’m going to have the rest tailored. It doesn’t look bad not tailored, but I prefer a very neat/ clean/ close fit. The broad shoulder struggle is REAL and I think for an item like a show coat, fitting your shoulders then tailoring the rest is the only way to go.

As someone else who also has broad shoulders, big chest, and tiny waist
The RJ Monterey/Victory jackets I think fit broad shoulders really well, as do the Samshields. But the RJ’s are definitely in a more affordable price bracket.

My advice: try and shop around FB, Poshmark, Ebay for used coats. Additionally, a price hack for Samshields–go see if you can find one to try on somewhere first. If it fits and you like it, look at ordering from a tack store in Europe. Usually several hundred dollars cheaper (that’s how I got my Samshield Alix Air )

I agree, I always had to have mine tailored in. Usually had lengthen the sleeve as well

I used to do RJ and have it tailored. Then I got sick of dry cleaning. I currently wear an Irideon of all things. It washes well, drapes like it’s not tech fabric, and doesn’t act like I’m going to bust out a seam when I move my arm forward.

I have three AA MotionLites. They’re great. I also got an Espoir coat at Devon this year (https://www.espoirequestrian.com/collections/ladies/show) and get compliments everywhere I wear it, everywhere from jumper classics to dressage at the Rolex Stadium!

Which is your favorite tack shop ? Across the pond ??

I know you’re not asking me  but I’ve had good experiences with both Fundis and Equishop. I actually cancelled an order with Fundis because I could get the item faster from Equishop and got my refund super fast. I went back an ordered a helmet liner from them later which came inside of a week. (edited to remove an ‘also’ which also implied my refund came “inside of a week” – that was more like 24-48 hours).

(also that’s a beautiful color, re Tha_Ridge’s photo above)
