I’m shopping for a new show coat. Fortunately it is because my old coat is too big, not the other way around! My old coat was a Pikeur Diana. It was cut longer, which I understand is out of fashion now. But I liked it. Anyway, I’m finding that most of the coats available now are that stretchy, technical fabric. I am not a fan! I understand needing a lightweight coat if you show in a hot climate, but I live in a relatively cool climate and prefer the look of the coats made from heavier fabric. They seem to hide more and look more streamlined. It doesn’t have to be straight old-school wool, but I’m not having much luck finding a coat that fits the bill. Any suggestions?
You can still find coats like the Diana and the cavallo washable coat online-
Ebay is your friend too.
Try the RJ Classics ones.
Don’t know what size you are looking for but I have a Pikeur Diana that I would part with. You can PM me the size you need.
They will have to pry my Diana from my cold dead hands…
I have a beautiful old school Cavallo that is in excellent condition. I never wore it-bought it used in Middleburg. I do NOT live in a cool climate now :). PM me if you want info :).
I recently bought a Pikeur Radina and really like it. Only downside is the buttons are tacky, but it was easy to replace them with some lovely Czech glass buttons and now I have a unique coat. Price from Calevo is pretty reasonable too.
I also have a Diana in Navy and plan to continue wearing it once I’m showing sitting trot. The tails get stuck to my silicone breeches when posting, so there is a practical reason for a shorter coat.
Go to a thrift store and find a men’s jacket. There are some lovely ones that are usually wonderfully made, and you can have it tailored.
I usually buy pikeur from amira equi out of the UK. The prices are about half what you’d pay inside the states - only issue is shipping time. I have a pikeur epsom that I like quite a bit.
I have a lovely Pikeur coat that is stretchy and technical fabric, but lays/drapes more like a wool coat (no bulges or stretching anywhere).
I also have a couple of Horse Pilot coats that are my all time favorites for how flattering they are…they are h/j coats, though, and I don’t know what they offer along the lines of dressage coats. They are also technical fabrics, but heavier material (which are, interestingly, not hotter than my thinner coats). Also, with the HP coats, you can order any color combination: https://custom.mon-cheval.com/configurator-show-coat-Horse-Pilot-customize-59-p.htm
PM me, I may have something to work for you.
I also have a Navy Diana for sale with velvet collar and gold piping. You can PM me if interested…
By how much is your old coat too big? If it’s just a couple of sizes and it’s in good condition I’d probably take it too a good tailor/seamstress and have it taken in.
