I can never find a show jacket that fits me well. I’m 5’, 105 pounds, and show jackets are always either too loose around my waist, too wide in the shoulder, too boxy overall (RJ Classics), or they’re too long and I end up sitting on them during a show. Right now I’m wearing a softshell by Charles Ancona, everything fits perfect except it’s a couple inches too long. I have to get it tailored, but the way it’s made might it difficult to tailor and I don’t want to regret altering it. I can’t wear children’s show jackets because the cut is too boxy - I need a ladies cut. Any suggestions? My budget is kind of small because I’m a college student, but I can look for certain brands on consignment and stuff.
Picture of me in my too-long show jacket:
This one is forgiving if I sit on it because it’s a stretchy softshell. Other jackets get pulled up in the front and it’s a mess.
I’m about your size and the only coats that fit me correctly are children’s coats made by Grand Prix. I think I wear a 14… my coats are at the cleaners right now, so I can’t check, but I can get that number for you tomorrow.
This is how my coats fit. I have not had either of them tailored - they just fit me really well. Probably would fit you, too.
I am short (5’) as well, and I second the coats by Grand Prix. I can’t wear a children’s size, but their adult coats fit me well. I had mine shortened, but I believe the adult sizes do come in a short length, maybe by special order.
Oh cool, I’ll definitely have to check them out! I have tried an 8S (can’t remember if it meant slim or short) Grand Prix coat before, I think it was still a little long on me, but I’ll try harder to find a short length and I’ll definitely try the kid’s!
I am the same size, but I just got the Arista Modern Hunt Coat in XXS and it fits me really nicely. http://equestrilifestyle.com/collections/show-coats/products/arista-modern-hunt-coat Its not as traditional as what you can get from Grand Prix, but it is surprisingly nice.
also might want to try the Raliegh from Jpc the arms are long but it is shorter then RJ coats in a short model .
Oooh the Arista jacket is so pretty! Would it be acceptable at an IHSA show? I’m not actually sure how traditional we have to dress for the show, but the two-toned collar would definitely stand out. I will also keep my eyes peeled for the Raleigh :). I like how that one looks too.

They make the Arista in navy on navy!
Ditto kid’s sized jackets! There’s less of a selection, but they’re usually a little cheaper than the grown-up versions which is nice. I’m about your size and wear a kid’s 14 Devon-Aire. If you have your heart set on a soft-shell, I know RJ Classics has a kids version of theirs that’s not crazy expensive. Good luck finding something! Getting stuck in between the XS and kids sizes is always soooo frustrating.
Horze Winona
I’m 5’, 105lb and a 32D, which is another factor that should be taken into consideration. I bought a size 36 Horze Winona coat and it fits great: not Animo skin tight but not too boxy either. Everybody compliments on how it looks. It’s a steal at under $100, with classic cut and comes in black, blue, grey or red (I bought it in red for the jumpers). They also carry it in size 34, so you can go a size down if you want it a bit tighter or smaller at the shoulders (I wear 15’ from shoulder seam to shoulder seam). I did have to tailor the sleeves in length, though. They were about 2’ longer than I needed…

I don’t have a photo of me wearing it, but I do have a video, although I’m not sure how useful that can be…
