I missed that. Were they speaking of betting in Japan?
TB racing is huge in Japan and wagering is a big part, so I wouldnā€™t be surprised if there is a lot of betting going on.

Looking forward to the team competition. I was impressed by Jessicaā€™s ride , even though she had a rail in the qualifier. What an elegant rider.

I was also impressed that John Kyle didnā€™t rush in about her father until her round was complete, because he thought she should be recognized as the Olympic rider that she is and not with him leading with her daddy. Very well done, John.

I donā€™t know if it happens in Japan, but I believe there is betting on show jumping in Europe. Thereā€™s a section in the FEI guidelines for officials that says not to give out any kind of inside information that could influence the betting odds.

Just want to say that it serves the US right to not get into the individual rounds for leaving McLain Ward out- who thought that was a good idea? Oh, he only has two gold medals- letā€™s leave him off the team of three. I guess they say hindsight is 20/20. Jessica Springsteen has not paid her dues enough to be there.

I believe he will be on the team for the team competition. Time will tell.

To be completely honest even if they had qualified I donā€™t think any of the horses were up to that basically 1.65m round 2 not to mention that insane jump off. That was a course built for horses with extreme scope like Explosion

If it was 2020 and Azur and Darry Lou were on form the US definitely could have been in medal contention

I thought Ben Maher was entangled in quite a money fraud allegations at one time. Something to do with the Horse triple X.

Sheā€™s the color commentator so thatā€™s kind of the job - Iā€™ve never found Melanie to be much better. Also, sheā€™s no dilettante: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucinda_Green.

This was literally the plan him and Ridland had for these gamesā€¦

I really wish people would do just a shred of research before posting sometimes.

To be fair, I never saw it disclosed through any official channels. So itā€™s no surprise that there has been so much speculation.

The replay of the full individual final is on TV right now on NBCSN at 12:30 AM Eastern.

Jessica Springsteen was the highest placed American in the individual phase. I donā€™t think Kent or Laura are chopped liver.

I sure the decision was based on the horses each rider had available. Remember that Beezie was selected and opted not to go because she didnā€™t feel her horse was ready for it.

Second of all, Jessie had paid her dues. A lot of them. And earned her spot on the team. Her round in the individual qualifier was lovely, smart and strategic.

I am waiting for the day Bruce is introduced as the father of Olypmic equestrian, Jessica, but that may be a long wait. I am a big, big, big Bruce and Patty fan, but I wish there were more mentions of Jessicaā€™s accomplishments WITHOUT mentioning her famous parents in the first paragraph.

Yes, Bruceā€™s money has bought her some nice horses, but she still has to RIDE them and put the work in. There are lots of wealthy amateurs out there who can buy high quality horses, but they donā€™t ride like Jessica and theyā€™re not on the Olympic Team. Jessica is the perfect trifecta of talent, work ethic and bank roll.

A shred of research. That is good. You must be feeling superior about now.

Actually, she was not selected for the team. She opted to withdraw from consideration during the final event before the selection. Just to be accurate on the timeline.

Thanks for the clarification on the timeline!

However, my point is still that the selection process is for horse AND rider. If Beezieā€™s horse was ready, as a four time medalist with decades of experience, there is no way she wouldnā€™t have been part of the team.

Jessicaā€™s horse is in top form, and she has sufficient international experience to handle the pressure.

@RSEventer, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but here on COTH, if you spout off an ill-informed or ignorant opinion, expect to be called on it. That doesnā€™t mean the caller ā€œfeels superiorā€; it justs means that theyā€™re not suffering fools.

While this is technically true, two of them had one rail down, and were only separated by about a second on the clock, and one had two rails down. So they were pretty close together.

Itā€™s not as if Jessica had one rail and the other two American riders knocked down half the jumps.

And any of those three combinations could have jumped clear, but did not on that day, becauseā€¦ horses. :woman_shrugging:

What other dues would you like her to pay?
