No, it only came up for some horses, and I think mostly in the middle of the order, and when it did come up it wasn’t there for the whole round. The lowest number by the colored dots I remember seeing was 4 and the highest was 15 I think? Just confusing!
Hopefully somebody here will be able to explain it, at which point we will both go, Duh! Of course that’s it! Lol.
I have to say, how great for Japan to have all three of their riders in the individual final, and one in contention for a medal with a clear round in the jump off!
I was not familiar with any of them, but they did their home country proud! Good for them.
It seemed that the pop up bar was telling you how many jumps the current horse jumped clear (green) stopped at? (Yellow) and had down (red). At first I thought it was telling us the number of horses that had jumped the current fence clear, but then I noticed on a clear round that every time the first number (jump number) went up one, so did the green dot. And the numbers by the end were definitely not high enough to be for every horse at each jump.
Well, at least I’m not the only one who was confused by it. Lol.
And did anyone else notice the following graphic yesterday, which was just plain flat out wrong? If they’re going to bother whipping up a graphic to explain the rules to the general public, it would be nice to get the information correct.
In actuality, the first refusal is four faults and a second refusal is elimination.
Just an aside about the commentating, the other day Lucinda mentioned that they (she and John) were not sitting together. I think that makes it harder to not talk over each other.
PSA my TV says that Olympic Equestrian is on NBC at noon.
Regular NBC??
If you watch the online stream on NBC Olympics, that should be Lucinda Green, and after the live part is over, they immediately let you watch the entire replay. NBC (regular channel) is showing the rerun with Melanie Smith Taylor. The six horse jump off is next.
I’m a little sad that they whittled it down from a two hour competition to a few trips plus the jump off. But I’m glad they’re showing it on the regular NBC channel in the middle of the day, so more of the general public might get a chance to see it.
Fun facts.
Two of the six horses in the jump off were by Chacco Blue.
And two of the six horses in the jump off were barefoot.
And the Japanese rider who was in the jump off is ranked 600th on the world FEI list. While some of the other riders are ranked in the top dozen or so.
It was funny to hear the commentators mention the betting odds on the different riders. That’s not really a thing I’ve ever seen. Lol.
I was watching it streaming on my computer, checked on NBC and they did say “equestrian” on info, but all I saw was artistic swimming, I might’ve missed it?
Got through all of the individual finals, I think six or seven went clear? But when is the jump off?
They showed a very condensed version, from noon to about 12:30, with a few of the first rounds, and then the six horse jump off.
They might be showing a less condensed version later tonight on NBCSN? I think I saw that in the original listings, although I don’t know if they will still stick to it.
Ah, thanks
(Also see that they are doing the jump off right now )
@Equibrit. I swear she said* that the other day maybe during the Show Jumping portion of the 3 Day Eventing. I wonder if John also had on site announcer duties for that venue and then again for the Show Jumping.
That second picture is from the dressage events.
*IIRC, the conversation went like this:
(Rider is heading for a jump while making a noise)
LG “Oh, he’s telling the horse to go, go, go”
JK “I think the rider was saying whoa, whoa, whoa”
LG “Well, we are sitting at two places at the ring”
The only reason I remember this is because I was saying out loud ‘no, don’t go. Whoa, whoa, whoa’!
According to my Xfinity online TV guide, NBCSN is airing the final again tonight starting at 11:45 pm to 2:00 am ET.
Cian won’t jump kilkenny in the team contest following his nosebleed.
This article says that the highlights from today’s round will be shown on TV tonight at 9:45 PM Eastern on NBCSN.
Thanks! And welcome to the BB!!
