I agree I’ve never seen people bother them much at shows, or any celebrity for that matter. Most of them blend right in. Top riders are far more likely to get bugged.
I had dinner with the whole Springsteen family at Lake Placid some years back.
Well, they were at the table next to us in a restaurant. But I think it still counts! Lol.
In my day, it was Paul Newman. Same treatment. We all just swooned to ourselves.
This! I don’t think I have ever seen a GP horse lope around like a children’s hunter like that
I think that horse people are generally so busy obsessing about the horses that we are less inclined to pay as much attention to the people around them. Famous or otherwise. Lol.
I know I saw Jerry Seinfeld at WEF a few years back when his daughter was showing, and he seemed to look and act like a regular pony dad, and be treated the same way, as far as I could tell. Ditto for Kelly Ripa and her husband when their daughter showed.
I’ve wondered if this is why children of celebrities tend to gravitate towards horse showing (as opposed to Little League, or swimming clubs, or travel soccer. It’s not just that horses are cool but expensive, but also that horse shows are a place where famous people can come and just be normal parents cheering on their kids.
My mother and I had lunch with Paul Newman at a school picnic back in the early 70s.
We talked about car racing.
His youngest daughter was in my mother’s 1st-2nd grade class.
Did anyone post this yet? Many excellent pictures behind the scenes.
Interview with Peder Fredricson’s farrier for anyone interested in All In’s bare feet.
Thank you for sharing! Looking forward to discussing this with my farrier on Tuesday.
Thanks for sharing that blog @mh97! That answers a lot of the questions about how they handle varying footing at competitions.
I had a fit over him, too!! My fiancé had a funny look on his face I was carrying on so much about what an awesome stallion he was, LOL. I will never breed a horse, let alone a show jumper, but hoo boy THAT’S the one I’d pick!
I always notice that, too. I will not ride without gloves unless I’m riding Western. They make it harder to hold both reins in one hand, plus absolutely no one wears them to show so I have to practice without them. But when I’m riding English, especially when I used to jump? Always. I don’t know how they can get around GP, especially the way a lot of those horses pull, without them!
Exactly what I was thinking when ABBA started playing for Sweden!
More fun pictures.
LOVE these!
I guess Nick was there as an assistant trainer. Can’t get any better then an individual gold medalist!
I’m just finally getting around to watching this. My god in heaven, I’d have been launched to the moon…
Where can you find this amazing report of all the jumps!?!
Start here: https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/en/results/equestrian/olympic-schedule-and-results.htm
Then go to whatever event you want, say team show jumping final and click on Official Reports:
That will take you to a page with links to PDF files of the start list, results, course diagram, fence descriptions, etc.:
At one point I found a page that listed all of the PDF reports for all the equestrian events, but am not sure how I found that or how to re-find it.
