I tried a Google search, but all I came up with was a proposal for a rule change in 2018. And I don’t have Paints. Does anyone know offhand if you can now show a spayed mare in breed shows?
How would the breed show police this?
I’m not familiar with APHA, but I did a quick search of the AQHA rulebook and seems like the only thing it affects is some of the halter classes. (can’t enter a spayed mare in the regular halter classes but can do performance or ranch halter) Other than that, seems like it does not matter.
What classes are you doing?
But you aren’t the one showing? (you said you don’t have paints)
I would think it could only apply to the kinds of halter classes that are for breeding stock. I can’t see anyone caring in say, hunter under saddle.
When in doubt- shoot an email to APHA. I wouldn’t think it is any different than riding a gelding… maybe exclude her from a breeding halter class. I have shown a spayed mare (spayed due to ovarian tumors) in Arab shows and it was legal through them.
Doesn’t look like there is anything specifically in the rulebook against it: http://press.apha.com/2020_Rulebook_Final_WEB.pdf
