A relative has just received a shunt. Of course I have googled but I’m curious if anyone has any real life experience with one. Medications, complications, how long would one be left in , why would it be necessary?

I’m assuming your relative has hydrocephalus?
I’m not really sure. I do believe so, as a result of a head injury from a recent domestic violence incident. She has some mental health issues, and is not terribly communicative sometimes , that combined with the head injury makes it very hard to be there for her.
