SI/Hip Injections and Recovery Time

After months of lameness issues and a bone scan, my vet decided that she thought he had hip and SI lameness. He was injected 20 days ago and I haven’t seen any improvement. Is it pretty safe to say that it didn’t work? He has his coxofemoral joint and both SI joints injected. Stifle injections took about 14-16 days to see improvement, but wen’t away after about 1-2 weeks.

How long did it take to see results in your horse?

Did your vet block these areas to make/confirm there was a problem? To safely block for suspected SI requires a high degree of expertise. One little “slip” can cause a lot of nerve damage. IME to block and inject safely should be done in a clinic and the needle which is quite long is guided with the aid of large Ultrasound machine.
After the first SI injection is done we have sent the horse to a facility that has a water treadmill for 30-45 days.

When they return we slowly “leg” them back up before going back to full training and or use. We inject by and large every 6 months. But these are horses that are in full training. Competition horses.

When they came back from the treadmill there was a big difference. Have not done it any other way.
