Side LOAD trailer? Does this exist in a 2 horse version?

Does anyone know if any 2 horse trailers have a side LOAD option? NOT side UNload- side load.

I know EquiTrek makes one but I’m wondering about more commonly available US companies. I have heard of reverse load, but I’m curious if any make a 2 horse straight load with side load ramp. If so, how do they get the horses on there without a great deal of extra room in the nose of the trailer like in a 2+1? I feel like I’m missing something.

Thanks for the help.

Trailers USA and Hawk both make side unload. I do know Resa from Happy Trails sells a reverse load trailer - if anyone would know how to get what you are looking for she would.

Agreed. Resa is quite helpful and really knows her stuff.

EquiSpirit has that as well. Holler at Tom https://www.equispirit.com/

I’m looking for information on SIde LOAD. (Rather than unload.) Do any of these have 2-horse side load options? If so, can you explain how one gets the horse on the trailer? I do understand how to unload off the side. Thanks.

You need more length to sideload a horse and have him face forward. In a regular length 2 horse you have to either load him facing rear or rear load him.

Thanks. I’m looking for information on trailers with side LOAD.

Yes - that’s why I explained (with illustration) why it does not exist.

From loading horses on large trailers with only a side load ramp, I second that it takes a lot of room to get them turned around to face forward. Or a very short backed and agile horse.

Your best bet would be a 2+1 design if you’re really determined to have a side load/unload.

The last time I commercially shipped horses - the last horse on was in his row by himself, had to have the wall put together after he was loaded. You would have only been able to get a very short backed horse in the last stall in that row.

It sounds like you’ll either need a Balanced Ride rear facing trailer, an STX 2 horse van, or a 2+1 with enough length for you to spin he horse around after he loads and back him into his spot.

Turnbow has a reverse load 2 horse. https://www.turnbowtrailers.com/custom-luxury-horse-trailers/slant-load/floor-plans/two-horse-reverse-slant-grand-pr

My apologies, I missed that you wanted a straight load. Oops. Scratch the Turnbow…

Closest thing in the US is the Balanced Ride, Side Loading, Rear Facing trailers. They are straight loads and come in bumper pulls and gooses.

I had a Balanced Ride 2+1 that I absolutely loved. I unfortunately needed a larger trailer to haul multiple carriages for competing in CDEs, and needed to sell it. I wish I could have kept it. It was side load, the horses rode straight and faced the rear. Contact Risa at Happy Trails. She will know if you can get this without having the +1.

The only way you can do a side load on a 2H is either with backwards-facing or a 2+1. I have a 2+1 with an extra 6’ (9’ in front of the breast bars) and load from the side all the time. My horse is small enough to come forward to put her nose in the opposite front corner, then back in. My friend’s larger horse needs to come in, circle, then back in.

I suppose you could try to teach a horse to back UP the ramp on a side unload trailer, but I don’t really see that going too well.

Thanks everyone.

Here is a bumper pull that can fit two WBs. https://www.equivont.com/a/bumper-pu…8aAqNeEALw_wcB

Horses face the rear, horse divider swings out to the left for first horse to load.
OR if you want to break the bank, to for one of the vans as mentioned somewhere above…

Oh, they make a front facing one- notice the ramp is closer to rear of trailer.
Walk 'em up the ramp turn left, hook, close divider. rinse and repeat for #2http://www.equi-trek.com/products/trial-treka

I have a bp straight load 2+1 that could be a side load, same as a GN 2+1. It wouldn’t really be any less space than a 6H H2H as far as backing up goes.

It’s made by Trailers USA, 8’ wide, 21’ on the floor, no dressing room because I use the 8x8 +1 as a giant tack room, carriage storage and semi-primitive LQ (trailer is insulated and has a camper hookup, but no water). And in all fairness, I would ONLY use that +1 area like I do or for loading a la H2H loading, I certainly wouldn’t haul a horse up there in a BP, but I’m sure it has been done.

But it is available, however you will have to go the custom configuration route. Or you can really drop some change and get a side load euro style van. I’m fairly certain the vendor will be at Live Oak International in 10 days!

I have always wanted one of those euro vans. Everything seems so easy. Unless some big money falls down from the sky it isn’t going to happen.

Thanks for all the information, everyone. I had seen a few people talk about side load 2 horse trailers and I just couldn’t figure out how they were loading their horses. Now I have a better idea.

We “side load” on an oversized 2+1 (5 horse slant box)…I don’t see front facing side load ability without a very long trailer. You need the space to load/turn and back into stalls.
