Sidepulls/Bitless bridles

So after ten years of being horseless, that is about to change in a month. I’ve held onto and treasured my lifetime collection of horse related gear, knowing one day I would put them to use again. That being said my favorite sidepull seems to be missing. It was a braided nylon type so infinitely adjustable, with long scissor snap trail reins. It was soft on the hands, and the horse, but very durable. I’m having trouble finding the same one, so I was wondering if y’all could share ones that you like.

I will be doing spirited trail riding, maybe some endurance races mixed in eventually.

I use a full leather but very softly padded Transcend bitless which comes either as a side cue or a double version.

I flat school (horse at UK medium level although we no longer compete) jump, XC and hack out over all kinds of terrain in it at all speeds.
I know the endurance riders that use them tend to go for the biothane version, but I prefer leather personally.
The owner of the company is great with advice on measuring / fitting etc and although they are UK made she does ship worldwide (or certainly did) loads of choice on colours and you can bling them up - I have several including a one off bespoke Iberian double version.

Ooh, I LIKE this one. If I ever have to go back to bitless riding I will be buying one.

A bitless double bridle, SWEET!

My favorite bitless bridle is the Light Rider, a modified scawbrig. The “curb” on this one uses the same principle. Now I can get one like it with a “snaffle” rein too!

Was it anything like this? https://tiffanysbraidedtack.com/collections/average-bitless-bridle-options I’ve not tried the complete bridle, but I have one of the sidepull nosebands that works very well.

Thanks y’all for the suggestions, some very nice looking bridles. I really like the light rider design, and I found one on Two Horse Tacks website but I also discovered they had a heavily discounted “normal” side pull on sale for $35. The thrifty side of me won this time.

That being said, I will probably buy the other design in the future and reinvigorate my tack collection.

I used this one on my late horse. It was brown and looked like leather; super easy to clean and very lightweight and comfortable.

In the early days if the pandemic, my mare needed dental work, but everything was at a standstill and my vet wasn’t doing any dentals at all during the early lockdown. Mare was a little fussy with her regular bit while we waited to have the issue addressed, so we tried the sidepull-and just stuck with it well after the dental work was complete.

I have the regular sidepull from Two Horse tack (though added the neoprene padding to it) and my mare goes wonderfully in it. It’s held up for many seasons and just the occasional spin through the dishwasher.

I really dig the look of the moss rock one without the throat latch, it has a very clean and more refined look. That being said, thank you morganmaresvt for offering your insight as I bought the exact same bridle (sans neoprene padding). The orange really pops on your mare and looks fantastic.

I lust after this one.

I like the little wheel so you can adjust to your needs. My mare likes to lean on a noseband so the slight leverage really helps.

Thank you @Hightale!

I showed this to my second riding teacher/enabler/Home Horse riding “coach”, and she fell in love with it. I have given her at least two types of bitless (and maybe a bitless noseband) over the years and she is going home to see if she can combine two of them, one of the the Light Rider bitless bridle that she would use as the “curb”, to make an equivalent.

I am planning on buying at least one, maybe two. Since I no longer own horses and I don’t always know what size head my next lesson horse will have I will probably need a Cob (or a large Arab) and a Horse size, in biothane so I can just wipe it down with soap and water when I need to use it at both the stables I ride at.

The horses will not let me keep good contact when I wear the BOT and other far-infrared radiation gear when the weather gets COLD. They will keep “fake” contact but their tongues refuse to work with the bits and they are always a little bit behind in their contact. THIS one is the bitless bridle that will help me stay content when my hands just get too bad for the horses comfort (as a note my riding teacher always was telling me my contact was fine but the horses did not agree with her.)

This will also help me when the summers get too hot for my nervous system to work even when I wear an ice vest.

I get so bored when I use my bitless bridles because I really miss the conversation between my fingers and the horse’s tongue. This won’t fully replace that conversation but I hope that the horses I ride and I can use this double bitless bridle to come up with some good conversations of another type when I ride them.

Love! I wonder what the price conversion is to USD?

As of today…$162.00. I don’t know what shipping would be? Another $30-40?

I just went on vacation so it is going to have to wait a month or two :stuck_out_tongue:.
