Silicon free detangled.

Does anybody know if there is such a thing as a detangler that works, that doesn’t have silicon in it?

I use cheap human hair conditioner. It works great. It avoids a problem I have had with silicon detanglers which is that the silicon mixes with dirt and makes plastic-like tiny globs, like beads, which are really hard to remove. I think this wouldn’t happen if the horses were in a stall but they are out 24/7 on a dry lot. I haven’t had that problem with the conditioner, and I have used it the normal way where I apply it, brush out the tail and then rinse, and I have also used it without rinsing afterwards and it was fine.

Argan oil.
I also know someone who uses olive oil cooking spray.

I agree with this. Take some cheap conditioner (Sauve is inexpensive in our area), dilute it in water, put it in a spray bottle, apply liberally and detangle away. Works great.

I have used Health Haircare and I am pretty sure that does not have silicone. It works reasonably well.

yes coconut oil and I love the healthy horse pink conditioner…not total certain but it does not feel like it has silicone in it

I’m a huge fan of the whole Ecolicious line-up! I have just about everything of theirs in my bathing/grooming totes and wont use anything else.

Another vote for the Healthy Haircare Concentrate. Works well and I’m near positive there is no silicone. I sometimes put a little argan oil in the spray bottle too!

I also don’t want to use products with silicone and I also try to avoid alcohol.

I love the ecolicious products, pricey but they go a long way.

i have also bought some of the Shea Moisture products, they are human products can be found at Target and TJ Max.

I just came across Knotty Horse products at my local tack shop. We still have winter grim going on and this product has been amazing. My mare typically breaks into hives with various products and I have some significant skin allergies and we have had no issues whatsoever with this. This is the detangler, is is primarily apricot oil. They also have different sprays and shampoo. http://www.knottyhorseproducts.com/product/knotty-horse-7-in-1-detangling-treatment-shine/

Thanks for posting the ingredients: Contains mink oil from the fur industry - this one goes against my morals.

I use this

The more often you use it, the more the detangling effect carries over. What I really like about it is that it smells great (my farrier even commented that he likes the scent when doing my horses feet) and it keeps the curly dreadlocks at bay.
