Silliest jockey club names

I figured we needed something fun.

My horse’s sire’s name is Bumpy (1982) his dam was Extreme Turbulence.

The stranger thing to me is that the name got reused in 2008!

And there’s nothing to suggest it in his pedigree- so is he perhaps just a bumpy horse?

I still think Pants on Fire is a great name.

One of my local favorites back in the 80’s
“Hownowbrowncow”

one of my mare’s dam’s names is Yougottabejokin

My childhood horse came with the name Loves To Tap. Sired by Fred Astaire

My friends have Not Tonight Honey, Powpowkentuckypow, and Crazy legs Batty lol.

I have Oil Be Clever (?? what does it mean?!?!).

My current horse…Blame it on Bush.

yeah, I normally show under their JC name but not that one

Guess that means we’ll be seeing Itsobamasfault at some point.

I own Yardsale on Wheels.

I do show with it because I love the name.

Emily

I have one named Amountainoftrouble.

My wife’s mare’s Jockey Club name was “Phaltless Forbes” - her mother was “Asphalt” from a Bold Forbes line.

Mine is Red Chili Slew. Wouldn’t be bad if I didn’t read it as “Red Chili Stew” every time I see it in print.

I have the oldest maiden winner on JC record (at age 10, in her seventh season of racing). She is now excelling in her new life as a broodmare.

But I think everyone here is familiar with the strange saga of Kissy Kiss.

Say it out loud with a Cockney accent!

These are two of my favorites:

The silliest IMO are Deputed Testamony and American Pharoah just because the JC didn’t bother to check the spelling (and neither did anyone else!)

I liked the Spinelessjellyfish.

My daughter’s horse jockey name is Floridian Slip.

It’s a play on words from his sire and dam’s names, as is often seen.

I’ll Be Clever based on his dam Too Clever… but since his sire is Mobil like the oil company, Oil Be Clever.

My Canter cutie is Pop Tarrt. Not sure where it came from and it’s no relation to his parents’ names. I do show him under it, as it is cute…but few folks believe it’s his JC name

A friend of mine had a one called “Hearthead”. You guessed it, he has a star in the shape of a heart on his head.

Years ago I knew another OTTB who’s papered name was “Flat Note”. How is a horse supposed to have good self-esteem with a name like “Flat Note”? He failed on the track but turned into a lovely all around horse for his teen rider.

Cheese Soup, my old mare’s grand dam
