Supposedly this is Silver Charm that Baffert is on, from 1998.
Anyone know any more about it? What is with the costume? What was it for?

I believe the costume was a gift after Silver Charm won the Dubai World Cup. I do remember seeing this photo at the time, and thinking Baffert had some guts to take the horse out on the track in that outfit.

I’ve been a massive Silver Charm fan since he won the Derby, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this. How cool!
I remember seeing this photo back in the day but don’t recall the actual story behind it, other than having something to do with the Dubai race.

Silver Charm is such a gorgeous horse. That costume sucks on him though and Baffert’s got everything but the kitchen sink on SC’s head and in his mouth, I don’t think the horse would be going anywhere.
I miss Bob & Beverly Lewis. Also Trudy McCaffery from that same era. They were such good ambassadors for the sport.

My eyesight isn’t what it used to be, but all I can see is a snaffle in his mouth. The rest of the stuff seems to be part of the native costume to me.
Perhaps so, I thought that was a chain around his nose.
