Silver for wound care?

I’m looking for a miracle for wound care. I’m leasing a horse that has an old pressure sore on his deadlock that won’t heal. He also has a new site behind his knee. Almost every product besides silver has been tried. How do you feel about silver salve products? Absorbing has one that has silver and therapeutic honey. Anyone try this?

I’ve used a few different Silver products with great success. Silver Sulfadiazine Cream has been a go to for many different scrapes and such, my vet usually has me put it on cornea ulcers as well. I have the Silver and Honey spray and it seems to aid wound healing fine as well. I’ve also seen Colloidal Silver used to rinse wounds and as part of a nebulizer for breathing treatments on horses. There is no medication I’d ever call a miracle though, good nutrition, keeping wounds clean, and following vet advise is key to optimal healing.

I use the silver spray with honey in it - and you can shoot it from a distance with accuracy which helps on a cut on the hind leg at the moment -then I spray a clear bandage over it and add ivermectrin occasionally so a summer sore does not develop

I am curious about the silver-honey spray–what is it called? I am a huge fan of Biostar’s “Traumera” for casual wounds (it includes colloidal silver among other herbal ingredients). I will note that it dries white (perfect for me with a white-grey horse or on white stockings).

Absorbine has silver and manuka honey in a spray bottle. I bought some but haven’t had occasion to use it yet. I do know someone who used manuka honey on a nasty wound on her appy gelding. It made a big difference. It was several years ago and they had to do some searching to find the right type. I don’t remember what the criteria were, something about how it was processed.

I’ve used Banxx wound spray with good results. It has silver in it.

I’ve used manuka honey on my own cuts, but never tried it on a horse. There are some bandages that come pre-loaded with honey that might be less gloppy.

Here’s a story about using honey:

Silver sulfadiazine cream is my wound dressing of choice, equine, or human!!!

Yeah, I use it on my chilblains in the winter with good results.
