Silver WB filly...Take a look :)

Saw her on one of my FB groups and asked if I could share here for others who love the Silver gene.
a lovely yearling warmblood mare all warmblood… discovered she has the silver gene. She is located in Alberta Canada! Bloodlines are Bugatti Hilltop X Donnerbube (by Donnerhall) x Calvados
So where did it come from???

I am thinking it is coming from her dam’s side. Most likely the grand dam as she is a grade mare.

It would have to be the great grand dam… that is the grade (actually a quarter horse x tb whose papers were lost). When the PMU industry was hot papers werent a big ticket item:no:

Silver or ‘Z’ gene is a gene that dilutes black. Black manes & tails in extreme expression will be diluted to a flazen/white/silver or can be less diluted to a chocolate/brown color. Black legs & bodies are diluted to a chocolate brown color or on true black horses a pewter color.

It’s a rather rare color especially in the larger non-gaited breeds. It’s found in just 2 lines of QH, 1 confirmed line of APHA (only 5 or 6 in the world), one reg. ApHC, a few Dutch WB’s, etc. The color is most often seen in Rocky or Kentucky Mountain Horses or in Shetland ponies.

We have a silver buckskin pony mare by the Welsh stallion Creme de Mint who is a Silver carrier. We just adore her!

This pretty girl is by Amazing and out of a palomino TB mare…can she get the silver gene from palomino?

We always wondered about the filly above as she had brownish legs vs. black and some strange “marbling” if you will on her brownish legs, plus the oddly colored tail… would be very curious to hear what the color gurus think, as I never thought about silver…

Silver can hide in red based colors. What is the breeding on the dam?

The dam is Skattered Dreams by Dream in Gold (Glitter Please) and Secretariat/Nothern Dancer on bottom… she is plain (star and sock) but mother was sabino. She’s had some slightly more loudly marked foals so wondering if she’s hiding sabino too? Is that possible?

If mom is a full TB, then Silver (AFAIK) is not in the breed. There are many others on her that will be able to tell you for sure about that as well as your Sabino question.

Aother intersting question I have always wondered, is what seems for the most part to be the suppression of white markings on the Diluted color horses. I would love to hear more about other experiences with that. It just seems that the majority of them I see (palomino and Cremello) don’t have much white/sabino markings. Curious about that too
