"Sir Mortimer"--Anyone have any info on this hunt horse? MD/VA

Hi,

Received this e-mail:

Hello to all the MD Hunt Clubs. I am searching for information on a very special horse by the name of “Sir Mortimer”. I took over his care 4-5 years ago, he is safe, and living out his life on my farm. Our current guess on age based on coggins I received from last owner (Stephanie) is that he is roughly 31 this coming year. He is a 17 hand Shire TBX gelding with a lot of knowledge. I was told by the last keeper that he was hunted heavily in MD and possibly VA and that he may have been schooled through 4th level, which seems likely. To the best of my knowledge the last owner may not have had authority to give him away without 1st right of refusal, which would be why she refused contact info for his previous owners. He is an old man way past his years and my mother (his owner) and I would like to get more info on his younger years to honor his life. He has earned his much deserved retirement free from fear of ending up in a bad place. He gave my mother his last riding year and ended with the series Championship for her. She will be forever indebted to him for taking care of her that year. Enclosed is a pic from that will help identify him. Please feel free to forward this email to anybody I have missed or who you believe may have info on this special boy. Thankyou!

MaryAnn, what a nice post! Since you have not gotten a lot of response here, can I suggest you post in the Facebook group Hunt horses for sale? Obviously he’s not for sale, but a LOT of foxhunters drop by that group on a regular basis. You may also want to join the email list Foxhunters Online/- lots of MD and VA folks post there.
Both of these are free to join and post. Good luck!

I’m not MaryAnn, just a recipient of her e-mail. I think this went out to most of the area hunts (i’m the secretary of one in MD), do you know if this was posted yet on the FOFB group? If not, i’ll cross post there as well.

I was banned from the Hunt horses for sale group , but that’s another story. Seems everything qualifies as a “hunt horse” including broke down grade broodmares and weanlings. It was driving me batty to see everything thrown into that page, and the admin didn’t appreciate my suggestions to remove those unsuitable candidates.

I have not seen the request for information on the horse on FOFB.
