Sir Wanabi or Westporte

Trying to make a last minute breeding decision. I have a 15.3 hand Oldenburg mare I think I want to breed again. She has a jumper/dressage pedigree. Contendro and Idocus on the dam side and Cor de la Bryere and Ramiro Z on the sire side. She’s a lovely flat kneed mover with a great jump. She’s got a little spice with a great brain.

Had two foals. 3 year old by Bon Balou. He’s 16.2 and a dead quiet spur ride being aimed at the hunter ring. Super mellow and sweet.

She just had a foal by Toronto. He’s beautiful. Well muscled appears to have an excellent canter. He is just two months though. My goal was to produce a jumper with a little spice.

I want to add length of leg (she’s short and thick) and breed for a hunter or maybe something that could dabble in dressage since I’ve recently been playing in the dressage ring. Flat kneed trot and a sweeping canter are important. She’s a little quick off the ground and very handy but has nice form. So something with a quiet round jump would be ideal. The Bon Balou 3 year old has a great free jump.

I thought of these two because of their duel purpose (dressage and hunter) pedigree but don’t know much about what they produce.

Any info would be appreciated.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a Sir Wanabi that wasn’t nice…most I know have great temperaments and lots of them are showing hunters and dressage, doing well. He is such a sweet stallion!

Westporte I know less about, but have heard his foals are pretty nice too.

I actually like most of the Sir Wanabi offspring I’ve seen more than I like him (he and a lot of babies are local).

The only Westport offspring I know has short legs. I’d probably go with Sir Wanabi for your mare.

Lol, my Westporte is very leggy, out of a shorter-legged mare.

Hmm, the Bon Balou sounds super, I might repeat that…

Bon Balou died. There is only frozen semen available so that may be factor.

If Bon Balou was still alive, I would have bred back but this mare can be tricky with frozen semen :frowning:

are you in Canada?

Westporte hands down. Both for quality of offspring (10 out of 10 for ammy temperments) and saleability! Sir Wannabi is a lovely stallion but no offspring of note that I know of in the show ring yet. Westporte has tons of youngsters out there showing and doing very, very well. I own 2 and breeding back again myself. Excellent owner to deal with as well

I have a 10 year old gelding by Westporte out of a 15.3 hand TB/Connemara mare. He has plenty of leg, wins the hack in the hunters and is a solid 3rd level dressage horse. He also can win over fences on the rare occasion when I can find 8 distances in a row, lol. I would love to buy another Westporte but can’t afford them (I bred this one). Super amateur brain and of course drop dead gorgeous.

Hands down Westporte, I have a Westporte at home and he is perfect. Friendly, well put together, good mover. The stallion owners were beyond fantastic to deal with. The Sir. Wanabi stallion is local to me and friends who have dealt with the owner have had mixed reviews which is unfortunate as the stallion is nice.
