Sizing of Herm Sprenger Novocontact and Dynamic RS bits?

I’m looking at possibly trying a Novocontact, or Dynamic RS, but I’m not sure how the sizing runs on these. Intellectually, I know in what sizes each is available (in centimeters) and how that converts in inches, but I feel like I’ve heard or read that some (both?) of these bits run large. Am I making that up?

Horse in question is currently going in a WH loose ring that I had thought was 5.25" (13.5cm/135mm), but then realized it’s not actually made in that size, so it’s either a 13.0cm/130mm or 14.0cm/140mm (I think 14.0cm, as it measures 5.5" ring to ring - 5.25" if you subtract for the holes for the rings to run through). It just fits, so ideally the next bit would be slightly bigger.

Looking at a single-jointed loose ring in either case.

Thanks!

I find when staying within the HS bits, they run true to their own sizing quite well. Maybe a horse here or there with a strange tongue may be able to disprove that, but for the most part I think of HS as being the standard for true sizing.

In my opinion, the Dynamic RS run slightly small. They measure true to size, but there’s something about the angle that meant my horses needed to go up a size. I had the same experience with the Neue Schuele bits - one size up worked perfectly.

I haven’t tried the Novocontact, so can’t comment on those.

I tried the single jointed Novocontact on my gelding (small, sensitive mouth) and he absolutely hated it. It was much thicker than I expected. However, the sizing appeared to run true to other Sprengers I’ve tried.
