SJ Day 2

So late to the party …in the mountains :)…but I did just get see Rich and Flexible (swoon) and then the phenomenal Casall…Swedish team…but I’d swear they announced as a 10 year old Holsteiner “mare”. Err…I am sure a stallion…

Since saw nothing else …only now viewing results…carry on…

I dunno… The way I see it on the CAN horse is that having done the same thing to Denis Lynch a few weeks ago, the FEI pretty much had to apply the same rule the same way here. Otherwise they would stand accused of inconsistent application of the rules.

Agree with War Admiral in that they have to apply the rule consistently. I wonder regardless of the cause of the cut/hypersentivity–is it considered a competitive advantage?

So, since the implementation of this rule, how many Germans/Dutch/Swiss/French (conti.ental Europeans) have gotten caught by it? Versus North Ameri ans and non- Europeans? Just curious.

Not only did he smile, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen George Morris pat a horse coming out of the ring!! I’m sure, of course, that it happens, but this made me smile. Go Flexible :)[/QUOTE]

YES, I saw that! Something finally pleased Old Stony-Face. And boy, did they deserve gratitude. What a partnership - I saw Rich patting him even on course, and I bet he talks to him all the time, too.

I was so disappointed that McLain made the error at the water, but I’m sure he is beating himself up quite enough. Reed hung in there - I thought Cylana looked like she was getting really strong - and recovered the stirrup, the loss of which certainly made me cringe.

Yeah, how about those Saudis? I never would have imagined their team would be in this position, or that the quality of their eq would have improved so much! They may or may not be “doing something” to the horses - and you would think they’ll be minding their p’s and q’s at the OG since they fought so hard to get in - but if you can’t ride, the best horse in the world isn’t getting you around the course. I’m impressed.

I’m just now watching the replay, and I must say, that fence number 11 is diabolical!

That postage stamp with some queen or other must have crazy eyes.

Rich and Flexible are just plain brilliant! I would be very shocked if they don’t end up on the podium.

Here’s a question- is the “full replay” actually a full replay? Like, exactly what I’d see if I watched the live stream? I’ve been watching live the last few days, but need to ride my own horse at some point instead of imagining myself riding all these amazing athletes!

Yes, and there aren’t enough hours in the day to watch it all. And you can’t fast forward to the riders you want to see.

Not only is he a stallion but he’s 13y/o not 10… not a knowledgeable commentator.

I think Reed is doing a good job as a member of the US team and that Rich Fellers deserve to get a medal.

France, Germany and Belgium out of the team competition is a shock when looking at their recent performances as teams.

I will not comment on the Saudi’s, they lead after the first day, but we are only half way of the team competition.

I will also not comment on the fact that there is a plot at the FEI regarding the non Euro riders. Dennis Lynch is the last Euro rider eliminated for hypersensitivity of his horse.

…And we have actual FACTS to support this allegation, have we?

Like actual photos of the little elven smurf spies that The Evil Princess paid to hide underneath the jumps and pull rails down with fairy strings as Beezie, Reed and McLain jumped over?

I mean, it’s so much easier to believe that than it is to believe that, by their own admission, three US riders simply overrode and the KSA riders simply happened to put in the right trips on the day, isn’t it?

I wonder what Germany thinks of this theory? Obviously the pro-European conspiracy is working real well for them…

Denis is Irish. Name one continental European that has gotten nailed with this capricious rule. Also, go to the FEI website and scroll through the violations brought before the tribunal. You will be shocked at the number of cases involving KSA and UAE. My first reaction was how can these countries even be showing at the Olympics?

You will also note the lack of any violations by the big guns…

Thank you, Lauriep!! That’s exactly it. The FEI goes after non-Euro riders. Just look at the record she mentioned in her post.

The Saudis got their fine hugely reduced; Rodrigo jumped his horse ('tho did pull up) altho he said the horse had a big leg in the stall that very morning; yet the North Americans are being attacked at every turn.

I mean, I would call a ‘big leg’ a candidate for a ‘hypersensitive’ inspection. Hmmmm.

I saw McLain riding at a show a year or so ago, riding a bunch of new ones in the Level 4s-5s – all lovely horses – and my immediate thought was, "Well, no wonder the FEI goes after him. 'We’ll let you (and any American) buy ‘em, but we’ll see to it you won’t be able to compete them.’ " Probably, the FEI, in time, will turn on the Saudis, altho assuming they train in Europe, so they’ll get a pass from the faux scrutiny…

ON another note, I cringe with these Middle Eastern riders. I don’t doubt that they are working hard. But, given those cultures’ cruel and ugly (and legal) attitudes towards women and animals, I would have a pitchfork at the ready if they thought they could come near me and mine…

I thought MST mentioned something about a doping violation by a German yesterday.

Agree. And there is a young woman who is Saudi who rides and competes in Europe and is one of the best riders they have, but no, she “can’t” be on their team. I think she should change nationalities, as she would be on just about any team around. She thought, with the dq’s, that they would HAVE to send her this year, but obviously, they got a work around that.

By the way Dennis Lynch was winning a lot in Europe…

And he just gets better!!! And better!!! and softer!!! and more consistent!!! It’s been amazing to watch him grow as a rider and horseman.

Absolutely! A lovely young rider! I am just sorry she will miss the individual…
