Come on Jessie! Really like this young lady. She is, apparently, staying on to base herself in the UK. Good for her.

She rode a great round even though she pulled two. This is a nice horse.
Really? What a great opportunity for her, but I’m sure lots of Canadians will be sad to see her home base move.

Yes, it is good to see no serious injury to horses and riders. It was a GREAT championships in that regard.

snoopy, where did you hear that? I am not doubting, only I know Rebecca Howard will be basing herself out of the UK from now. And Jessie’s facebook page (thus far) didn’t say anything about her moving to the UK.

Oh SORRY. I got them confused then. I heard one of the Canadian Ladies was basing themselves here and thought it was her. I shall go back and clear that from my posts. THANK YOU for correcting me.

Loved the British in their “proper hats” !

They said yesterday on BBC that Jessica Phoenix would be staying in GB.

See, I heard that as well…now I am confused. I heard that Jess was staying on BEFORE the games began. Am I wrong?

That makes Melzer and Bartels the most succesful National Trainer Team ever.

The question, why.

How can riders just choose to base themselves in the UK? It is very difficult to get VISAs and whatnot to work there…so I would love to hear how these athletes get around that.
Maximum of 3 riders from any one country allowed in individual. Brits, Germans and Kiwis all had 4 riders in top 25. If it wasn’t for that rule P. Dutton wouldn’t have qualified for the individual jump off.
Affirmative action for the USA! :D:D (Couldn’t resist. Thinking of the other thread about the gymnast who was 3rd for the US so couldn’t compete in the finals because they only took 2 from each country, and how posters were furious that “other” countries got in. They said that if the other countries wanted to be in Finals, “they should just try harder.” So we should tell Phillip Dutton that, I guess).

Considering how judgey many folks are, I am surprised there has not yet been criticism of the riders entering the arena for the medal ceremonies without chin straps afixed. Nor criticism of victory gallop sans helmets

Big change coming January 1, 2013!

I know in America you can get an “extraordinary ability visa” which most successful sports stars go for. Not sure what the UK has in place along those lines. Perhaps the Canadian rider in question has ties to the UK/EU through parentage and has a right to live/work in the UK/EU by virtue of a right to a passport that qualifies.

Well, the IOC does like to reach out and include the “smaller” nations.

Well done all! It was a great competition.

So many great riders and horses. A huge treat to watch.
Definitely. Don’t want to lose sight of that with all the kvetching. It really was a wonderful competition.

And then they corrected themselves later in the broadcast.

Must have been a bathroom break!

Thanks again for the clarification and correction. Sorry Jess and her connections.

Yes that would be one of the only ways. I wanted to stay longer than the 2 year working/holiday via I did in Scotland but it was pretty much impossible for me.

Rebecca Howard is planning to stay on in the UK.

Jessie has a husband, son as well as a farm and many clients in Canada. Never say never, but I haven’t heard even a whisper that Jessie was planning on staying.

Given Rebecca’s age, she would not be eligible for a youth mobility visa. She likely has applied for/obtained a Creative and Sporting Visa.

Rebecca will have done it all above board. I remember speaking with her mother years ago about all the red tape involved when she wanted to stay in the States.

Thank you again for the correction. As previously stated, the BBC said it was Jessie and as I had heard one of the canadian ladies was staying on, I put one and one together. I did not hear the correction made later on BBC about it being Rebecca and not Jessie.
