Skilled and Trustworthy Colt Starters near Bay Area/Central Valley California

I’m looking for recommendations for a colt starter either in the Bay Area or within 2 hours of Tracy, CA. I have a 3 year old Appy/Mustang cross that I bought as a two year old for a companion/potential trail horse. Well, she’s developing into a much nicer horse than I expected, so I’d rather send her off to make sure she has the proper foundation.

Sadly, I live in a trainer desert. I need someone reliable and trustworthy because I’ll only be able to visit on weekends. I don’t care about discipline, as long as they put a solid w/t/c and stop and expose the horse to new experiences. Goal for this horse is lower level dressage and eventing, trail, and I’d like to try out Working Equitation with her.

Any one come to mind? Anyone work with Steve Bauhr?

Inexpensive and they start a dozen horses right every year. Bonus that the horses can live in pasture and are hacked out every day. Oh, and did I mention close to you and cheap!?

Another vote for Connie Arthur (as PP suggested) and anyone she has working for her. She’s the real deal and has been for quite a while.

I’m no longer in CA but I remember her with great admiration.
