I saw that SBS is offering frozen semen of Skovens Raphael (Romanov/Don Schufro/Zorro Z) for 2013.
Does anybody have any info on this stallion?
I would like to know what his semen quality/post thaw motility and conceptions rates are. At 160 euro per straw, it works out to be about 640 Euro for a dose (4 straws). Gorgeous horse.
Different video here showing some canter work. Very uphill.
My friend who posts on here as Topkat has two mares in foal to him. I’m sure she can give you details about his motility/post thaw. Love him!
I’d be interested to find out what type of mares Topkat bred to him.
He looks like a fantastic stallion but I found very little on his offspring and/or what type of mares complement him.
Here is the link to a recent article in Eurodressage. I have one mare in foal to Skovens Rafael, I was told that he needs a mare with a lot of blood. I was told that he’s not a foal maker, but is making outstanding riding horses. My mare is half Arabian, her Arabian sire is a Grand Prix dressage horse who was approved by ISR/Old NA, ATA and AWS. The mare has an entensive show record too. Her dam was registered OLD NA, but was 3/4 Trakehner. I think the mare I bred has more than enough ‘blood’ without TB.
Rafael is gorgeous stallion, he’s a huge mover with a bright future. I’m sorry to bring up color, but he has one of the prettiest liver chestnut colors I’ve seen. I remember when he sold at auction as a three yr. old, I loved him then and still am a great fan. I’ve seen him in the flesh twice, he still dazzles me.
His post thaw semen is execellent, my mare was bred with one dose in only one cycle, my vet said the semen quality was excellent.
I wouldn’t breed and old fashioned type mare, a half TB might be good. They are very big on TB mares in Denmark, probably to refine some of their older lines.
Thanks Top Kat. This answers my question. He would definitely be an option for my mare since she has about 70% blood and is very refined.
