Slip on barn shoe recs

Ok, I know I’m being particular about this but feel like I’ve been searching for something that doesn’t exist for years!

Horses are home so I make several trips out to the barn a day. We don’t wear shoes in the house, so I’m usually sockless and don’t want to put on socks every time I run out to the barn, but I detest the feeling of getting shavings or bits of hay stuck to my bare feet! I normally slip on Joules or Hunter boots to run out to the barn, but if I’m barefooted in these shoes, I end up with my dreaded issue, especially in summer when my feet get sticky and hot!

SO, I’m looking for something with a sole similar to a flip flop that shavings and hay won’t stick to…something I don’t need socks to throw on. Problem is, most shoes like this aren’t horse-safe (although I’m well aware my typical barn shoes are not super safe either). Does something like this exist?!

Crocs!

I swear I’ve seen socks that stay in your shoes which sounds like it would be perfect for you. 30 seconds of googling isn’t turning that up, but maybe you’ll have more luck. I did find these:

Which might work.

I wear Merrell mocs out to the barn, and those might be something for you to check out. I just can’t imagine not wearing socks, but I hate having dirty feet :grimacing:

I use these, and they’re quite comfy and breathable. The knit fits pretty tight so minimal hay and shavings get in.

I wear slip on Sketchers or Vans depending what door I’m at.

They work decent and are comfortable. I don’t wear socks with either and wash them in the washing machine.

Ah, here they are. Socks that stay inside your shoes.

Same.
But I get mine from Goodwill @ $4.50/pr.
Merrell slipons lasted several years, current Skechers are probably 3 & just now starting to get too beat up - one toe will soon be “en pleine aire”
Winter means insulated kids boots from TSC (women’s 8 = boys 5). $20 for a pair that lasts😫 at least 2yrs.

N-O! to Crocs :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Shavings, hay & any dirt gets in the holes.

Dansko clogs if you can walk in them

I wear Toms religiously. They aren’t traditional “horse safe” shoes, though my feet have been stepped on several times with no injuries, though that’s probably luck. But they are comfortable, shavings stay out, washable, etc.

Sloggers garden shoes. I wear mine to garden and when I go to the barn. sometimes with socks, sometimes not. Cheap, long lasting, fun prints. https://www.amazon.com/Sloggers-Womens-Waterproof-Comfort-5118GOBL07/dp/B075DQYDF6/ref=asc_df_B075DQYDF6/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=242015693684&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6099101015630204903&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011763&hvtargid=pla-401745899425&th=1

I am also going to suggest Crocs, but you may like the ones without the holes.

I was in a similar dilemma, my Wellies are too hot in summer and my nice workout sneakers were getting gross (grosser than I wanted to use them at the gym). I purchased a new pair of Crocs several weeks ago (my dog chewed mine up many years ago when she first arrived) and have been very happy.

I like the ones with holes because my feet stay dry or dry quicker if they get wet bathing horses. The shavings/hay/lawn clippings don’t stick to my dry feet and just brush them off when I come inside. They offer no more or less protection than my Wellies, which are my cold and wet outdoor shoes. :woman_shrugging:

These seem to be exactly what I’m looking for! Just ordered a pair for $19, can’t beat that. Love that they are waterproof, I frequently hose off horses when they come inside so that’s an added bonus. Thanks!

years ago I used to have the Muck shoes, olive green things. For $50+ they didn’t seem to last long at all, so I tried these on a whim. They even have some arch support. I think I’m on my 3rd pair, and I get a new pair roughly every 3 years. And I love that they are made in USA… Enjoy!
