Slow Page loading

I don’t know if there’s a way for me to impact this from my end. I’m on dial-up from home (am at work now) and it takes each COTH page I want to load up to 5 minutes to load. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the home page or any topic or an additional page within the topic. I don’t have this problem with “the other” board, but I don’t like the other board and want to continue with COTH. I also don’t have the problem with any other website I visit from home. It just seems to be focused on COTH. Any suggestions or explanations?

Thanks,
Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Has the site always behaved like this for you, or has it only recently gotten slow?

Thanks!

It’s been slow for about a year now…prior to that was behaving fine (for being on dial-up). I thought it was my virus protection, so I took it off and things have not improved.

Have you tried clearing your computer’s cache of Temporary Internet Files and cookies? Sometimes that’s a good first step when things go “wonky.”

The board had been acting very grumpy earlier this year, but we implemented some changes with the server set-up a few months ago that have been a huge improvement.

Give the cache clearing a try, if you haven’t already, let us know if that’s of any help, and we’ll go from there!

Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try clearing my cache over the weekend. It had no effect. Any more ideas? I’m on the road this week for work, so have great access right now.

It does sound like a problem related to that particular computer’s settings or ISP, however, since you’re doing OK on the road. The board has been getting increased traffic, so I don’t know if that would bog down your dial-up.

Do you use AOL? We notoriously have had trouble with AOL users trying to access the board.

Let’s see if any of the resident experts have some suggestions of their own after this posts bumps you back up to the top…

Yes, it does suggest weird settings on my home computer. I’m just not sure what to change. I am not an AOL subscriber, so that’s not it. Suggestions by anyone would be appreciated. It’s odd to me that it’s just this one bulletin board it doesn’t like.
