I’m betting a horse tomorrow (12 yo PRE, upper level dressage)and previous films (last year) show a small bone spur on fetlock. We will be taking more pics tomorrow to see if there is any change.
My vet is down to earth and good with this stuff;I will trust his opinion. But I’ll make my own decision.
I have NO experience with anything like this. I’ve read the posts here from years ago…
Any experiences to share?
The location is the biggest consideration: is it in the joint? Does connective tissue run over over the spur causing inflammation/possible scarring?
I’ll echo @CHT. I had a client buy a TB who also had a bone spur, but it was right above/topside of fetlock joint. Horse was 12y and currently sound and in work. Vet had no issue with it and horse continued sound on it. It’s one of those “it all depends” situations.
Thanks. I’ll see the films today.
If he’s sound on it now, it might be worth the risk.
My 28 year old retired jumper had a spur on his front fetlock on X-ray which we found in his PPE. I made a lower offer based on its presence. It has never been an issue. He was doing his job at the time and I felt comfortable taking the chance he’d continue to be fine. He was. And is, the cranky old stinker!
