smallest kids helmet

What’s the smallest youth helmet out there? The Ry will be almost one at Nationals so of course we’re doing leadline! We’ll have assistance and spotters  but I’d still like a helmet on her just to be safe. Was looking at the Troxel Legacy but it’s Sm is only 53 cm…which is about 10 cm too big right now! Are there any smaller than that?

Thanks!

Ovation makes an XS helmet in most of their models, added bonus of having the adjust-dial as well to allow for some growing room. I think it’s only about 48cm at the smallest setting, though, still too big.

I looked at some of the UK sites as well, since they do more children’s stuff over there. Found oodles of adorable GPA and Charle’s Owens children models, but none under about 50cm.

From this old thread, seems a bike helmet may be an option if you truly can’t find one small enough: http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-368311.html

I think ovation makes a toddler helmet. I was looking on their website for a helmet for myself a d noticed a toddler model.

They do: http://www.horse.com/item/ovation-deluxe-toddler-schooler-helmet/E013495/

But if the OP is correct about her kidlet needing a 43cm, and the measurements on Stateline/the hat chart I’m using are correct, it will still be too big.

Any chance for a mismeasurement on baby’s head, OP?

I mean, it’s possible! That was her measurement at the dr for her nine month checkup, and Nationals will be right before her 1st Birthday. So she’ll probably have grown some!

IF it’s only a little loose, what are the opinions on stuffing it a bit? like putting a beanie on her before the helmet maybe? She’s going to have someone (or me) walking beside her and holding on just in case and she’ll be on a super super dependable old show pro of a horse.

Thanks! That is definitely the smallest I’ve seen AND it comes in black

Don’t they have foam shims you can put in the headband to make adjustments in the size? I think that would be more comfortable than putting a cap underneath the helmet.

Snowbee makes teeny-tiny helmets. You will want to try them on, IIRC the Ovation runs a little big and the Snowbee runs a little small.

Since baby is only a year and they grow fast at that age, I think I would prefer one slightly too large and shim it with foam strips in the headband. That way she would get .more use from it.

We got my 6 year old (who has a tiny oval-shaped head) a Uvex (XS child size). It has a dial tightener, so we could get a snug fit as well as some growing room. No shims required. The tiniest Ovation was too big on her.

The Uvex might be a little pricey for a single leadline class though… we went ahead and bit the bullet since she is riding more regularly, doing pony club stuff, and starting to foxhunt (on the leadline, but hey, still counts!!), and I think I can still get a few years out of it.

If it doesn’t fit a 6 year old… Odds are not good that it could possibly fit an infant??

OP - I have an XS Troxel Helmet, black that I’m looking to sell. I got it in either late 2013 or early 2014, and has been worn less than 10 times, never in a fall. Bought it for my nieces and nephew who visit pretty rarely, and are now all too big to fit it anymore. PM me if interested.

Op I just bought this for my 13month old! Was $80+tax Canadian. I ordered their xxxs-Xs dial fit. Kiddos head is 46cm. Should fit her until she’s school aged
