Quarter Horse News
The late, great Smart Chic Olena, rest in peace. According to owner Bill Richardson, the 1985 stallion who has offspring earnings topping $10 million in the reining, reined cow horse and cutting arenas, spent his final months grazing peacefully in the pasture next to his longtime mare friend, Brooksinic. Smart Chic Olena was euthanized on June 24.
So sad, he was a great horse.
OH ! So sorry to read this ~ thanks for posting ~

Oh No! But what a great life for a fabulous, prolific, great QH sire…
Wahhh RIP ):
So sorry to hear that! I have a Smart Chic Olena grandson, who came from Penn State. If our horse is anything like his grandfather, the horse world lost a great one yesterday!

Impeccable horse with an Impeccable pedigree, he left his mark…
Who bred him?
One of my trainers favorite stud horses. I love his offspring. A great life for a great horse!
This is from a few years ago, but still interesting to watch…
I know All Starlight is now owned by Painted Horseshoe Ranch in Montana because that is where my geldings Dam was bred/came from…

No he was not - Jim Babcock purchased him at auction in 1998. He is still listed per AQHA as being owned by Jim, but all press releases have him as being owned by Bill Richardson.
He was bred by Emily Woodall.
Thanks for the correction. I thought that Bill Richardson bought Smart Chic Olena seperately, but I’m not positive. I know that Smart Chic Olena and frozen semen from him were held back from the liquidation sale.
Bill bought a large number of horses from the person who purchased the horses in the bankruptcy sale. I don’t believe Bill stood Chic, as I believe he has lived the past few years with his old vet in Gainesville. I could be wrong about the part about him standing though. Just noted that it was odd that the horse was never transferred into his name, where as all the other ones in the sale a few months ago were.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with all the frozen that was available for sale.
