Smart Phone apps for trail riding

Search feature isn’t yielding me anything useful. I’ve been a smart phone hold out but finally upgraded this weekend. Are there any apps out there any of you find useful? I only do pleasure trail riding, and some hiking.

All suggestions welcome but free apps even better! Android phone.

It would help if you could summarize the app and what you like about it if you can!

Many thanks!

I’ve had pretty good luck using apps designed for runners and hikers. They map the trek, give mileage, speed and some give change of altitude. Cheaper ones struggle with staying connected to satellite or whatever they use for mapping. Right now I’m using Map My Walk app.

my tracks and road ID are my favorites, especially road ID if I am alone and want people to know when I start/finish. Also it sends out a distress text if you are stationary for more than 5 minutes.

My tracks is nice if you just want to keep track of miles, speed, elevation, etc. and want to post a map to fb. Road ID is just a great app for safety. I use it every time I ride alone (ring or trail)

I’m using ramblr right now. I like it pretty well.http://www.ramblr.com/web/mymap/trip/120750

Endomondo. There’s a free version and a paid version.

I used Endomondo this year. I have loaded RoadID but have not used it yet.

I use Endomundo and Map my Run. I like Map my Run better, as it seems simpler and more straightforward for me. I just want to know how far I’ve gone, and where I am, so I can 1) get back to the trailer, and b) do the trail again sometime.

I use Map My Tracks. It lets you specify all sorts of sports, including horseback riding. I think it is an all-purpose app made by the same people who do map my run, map my ride, map my walk, etc.

Locate Me will give you your address, where you are on a map (in case you are in the woods) and your lat/long coordinates. And it will allow you to email, text and share the info via social media if you need to.
