Smoky Mt. Ride

I am thinking about visiting/riding in the Smoky Mountains in the next 4-6 weeks. Anyone have a recommendation for a good Ranch/Farm to stay at?

Gaited horses would be nice, but not a deal breaker

Not a nose to trail 2 hour beginner ride, we prefer longer more challenging rides.

Of course, we want the horses to be well fed, and well taken care of. No fly-by the seat of your pants operation.

Our lodgings just have to be clean, not fancy. In fact fancy is so not us!!

One is Gluten intolerant, so if you know from personal experience that a place can handle that, please speak up!!

Thanks

I live way down off the piedmont end of the Smokies. I will ask a couple of my friends who trail ride in that general area if they know of anything. Are you looking for a place that has its own horses, or to haul in with your own?

While I would love to bring my mares, it would probably be a whole lot easier not to. So I’d prefer to just hire horses, unless I can’t find anything suitable.

Maybe ask these folks…

Is Maggie valley ranch out of business? That was the go to place.

Walkers, are you talking about Cataloochee Ranch? If so, it’s very much still in business, and is pretty fabulous. On top of a mountain; rustic cabins to stay in; family-owned and operated; wonderful food; horses well taken care of (owner’s daughter is an equine vet)…check it out at www.cataloocheeranch.com They are right on the edge of the Great Smoky Mtn National Park, and have trails that go as far as you want.
