snow pads

the good: the new snow pads are working great for my horses and no snow balls!

the bad: we’ve had alot of snow and are going to get slammed again tomorrow. more hunts have been cancelled than not…

Didn’t hunt sunday, snow too deep for hounds…but did go for a beautiful ride with a couple good friends and a flask that needed some use:winkgrin:…

What else can you do?

I have the pads with borium as well and recently tapped so added caulks could be used. However my horse still slipped on icy patch and fell to sitting position just standing around waiting for hunting to begin. I rolled to side so he could get up, he was fine, very nonchalant about it all. I remounted and off we went. Still quite a bit of snow out (7 inches?) now you have to worry what is underneath. Does anyone have a magic combo?

My trailer is buried in a 10 foot snow drift and more is coming this week…only thing saving my sanity is the fact that all our hunts have been canceled anyway, so at least I’m not missing anything. I hate riding in the indoor all winter (but am grateful that I have one!).

I did road test my snow pads last weekend on a trail ride on the property and they were functioning great! I was out jumping snow drifts in a 40 mph wind! Had a blast!

I have the pads with the borium for both horses. My tb has 'em on all 4 and has zero slippage problem (he usually can never remeber where all four legs are!). At a hunt a couple weeks ago we went over a frozen creek. My horse was the biggest in the field at 17hh and 1400 lbs so I was cringing waiting for either a slip or a crash through the ice. Fortunately the ice didn’t break and my horse didn’t slip (whew).

So that seems to be the majic potion for me.

Red…sorry about the slip!..so, were you considered a cropper?

Apparently, despite my protest that the hounds weren’t even off the trailer yet and hunting had not started. Took my twenty anyway. Alas, I was the recipient of slppery saddle last year acclimating this show jumper to hunt field.
