snow pants

I know it is a bit early for that four letter word. I’m looking for some snow pants that I can over my breeches while I’m saddling, etc. What are your favorites!!

Honestly I just layer. A high quality long underwear base layer (I use the Eastern Mountain Sports store brand and I love them), then either jeans or winter riding pants, then rain pants for waterproofness/windproofness. Works great for me!

I agree with the layering - I use athletic tights - Underarmour is great/ warm and sleek - or a fleecelined layer; winter riding pants, and then I wear coveralls on top. I’m cheap so I just search consignment stores for anything that will work XD

I wear tights or long johns under my corduroy winter breeches than have chaps over top. The chaps won’t zip over my winter boots of course so they just kind of flap at bottom. But they do a great job of keeping legs warm and dry.

I would look for snowpants that unzip on outside of leg so they could be pulled off easily. I know Arcteryx makes a pair but there will be a pretty cold day in hell before I wore a pair of $600 snowpants to tack up in.

But a $50 set of used chaps does the same thing!

I have worn the Mountain Horse ones for many years…I am going to try the Horze ones this year.

I’m another that has had the Mountain Horse ones. I like them, they full zip down the sides, and have either a synthetic suede seat or silicone (I have had both), so you can actually ride in them if you need to.

At a clinic I saw someone with a heavy polar fleece wrap skirt for keeping warm tacking up It seemed easy to put on and take off. It was heavy enough not to billow in the breeze.

There was something similar, but made to ride in advertised last winter.

I covet one of the Laser Wool riding skirt/quarter sheets because they are beautiful and seem really warm. I see them every year at Dressage at Devon, but can’t bring myself to cough up $200 for one. :-

My trainer gave me riding skirt last winter…LOVE it!

Oooh, I like the idea of the skirt!!! I could make that really easy. Missed the TOTD :frowning:
