He’s a mutt, definitely german shepherd mixed with something. At an estimated 7 months old, he’s about 42-44 lbs. Any idea how much growing he still has to do? At his age, is he 60% or 70% grown, or something like that?

The challenges of getting a mixed breed is not knowing what the dog will look like and how big he will get upon maturity. Your guess is as good as anyone’s. With a mixed breed even the littermates can be various sizes. Just sit and wait. Good luck!
Well, you can say with certainty that he will be bigger than 40 lbs 
If we were running a pool on how big he’d be at 18 months, I’d probably pick the 60-70 lb slot, but it’s really a crap shoot when you don’t know what his sire and dam were.
I’m assuming that you don’t know how much he weighed at 16 weeks? We generally double that number for final weight… plus several pounds for a large-breed dog.
I will put some money down for 75 pounds, if you keep him in a good weight.
Haha, this makes me laugh. I got my corgi mix from a hoarder at 6-7 weeks old, and everyone thought he was going to be HUGE due to his LARGE feet. He’s now about 65 lbs… with low-rider legs. He looks ridiculous.
My mix breed pup has paws that are about 2 inches across and at 14 months he is 65 pounds of pure muscle.
I would think that your pup would finish at 75-80lbs.

I’ll play. My guess is only backed up by having a gazillion dogs over the years but here goes. I’d say 60-65 lbs. A bit more height growth and filling out. Maybe in the spirit of the upcoming Preakness we should wagers on Limitless’s pup?!? LOL
I would approximate his adult weight to be at least around 75lbs as well.
It’s amazing how much growing they can do even when you think they ought to be mostly done. I adopted my last dog when he was 9 months old and 55lbs, I didn’t think he’d get too much bigger(65 or so), because I was under the impression that by 8-12 months dogs were pretty much grown and only had a some filling out left to do. By the time he was 18 months old he was significantly taller and was pushing 80lbs! We kept him pretty lean too.

Interesting! I’ve kind of been thinking he’d end up around 55 lbs. I’d like him to be large in all honesty, but yeah, without knowing what he is exactly, it’s a guessing game. He’s been on the lean side, but is starting to fill in a little now. We’ve also had tough time with his digestion and loose stools, plus he came with worms and giardia. But I think his immune system is finally kicking in and poop has been consistently great for the past couple weeks.

well is he still obviously growing? my recent rescue mutt was estimated to hit at least 90 pounds (by the vet and several experienced persons at the rescue) at full size, but she’s almost a year old now and has weighed 55 lbs. since she hit 6 months. On the other hand, I had a mutt who grew 2 inches in height and added 25 pounds (to reach 95) after her second birthday.
Usually the smaller the dog the sooner they stop growing.
My Big Black Dog (Border Collie/LabX?) was about 30 pounds when I brought him home - age was estimated at 7-8 months… 3 months later I took him by my vet’s office just to see how much weight he had gained - I knew he had grown a little, right?
Dude was 60 pounds! Wasn’t fat, just bigger. He pretty well topped out there - 65 was his old “fighting weight”, 70 was too heavy (he’s 12 now, and I keep him a very lean 60#, because he’s got some arthritis issues).
It’s tough with the mixes and rescue pups, because between the mysteries of parentage, and the possibility that they might not make it to “full sized” because they didn’t get good nutrition or got sick early on…

Ok, I’m going to mark my calendar for December to update this thread with his size! He’s definitely still growing, and it’s amazing that I’ll see him when my husband brings him home from work and it will seem as though he grew in 8 hours! I wish we hadn’t had so much trouble with feeding him since we adopted him, because I’m sure his digestion held him back. The dog trainer loved him, and said the only negative thing about him was his poop!
