So I volunteered at a LD today

My husband ran the ultra marathon portion of the Run for the Horses 50k (also a 50 mile ride and run) today at the Biltmore Estate! Since we were there any way and have horses, my daughter and I helped and did road traffic control during the ride.

Hats off to some hard working horses and riders! I thought our upper level dressage horses were fit, but this is a whole new level! And the way the crews work at the breaks, wow!

And to brag on my husband: he won the 50k!

Congrats to Mr. Puddin Pie!!!

It’s really amazing to see how “business-like” those horses are - and their crews. And the condition most of the horses are in! Before I started crewing for an endurance friend I didn’t know much about Arabs - flighty, spooky, hot-blooded, all the usual cliches - and I gained a whole new respect for them. Glad you had fun and took your daughter - you may have created a new distance rider!

Whoo hoo!!! Congrats! Soooo, are your dressage horses ready to start cross training?

My mom just witnessed her first endurance ride at Big South Fork and hasn’t quit shaking her head and saying “You’re crazy, you’re all just crazy…”

As for the horses, they are really truly amazing, not just for trotting and cantering through 100 miles but for standing while an entire group of people pull off/ put on tack, throw water on them, check their feet, and stuff tubes of stuff down their throat, all the while just munching away. My arab has to work on that stuff before competing but I just know that my TB that evented, and then did hunters, would have blown a gasket and killed someone if I ad subjected him to that insanity.

Congrats to your Mr. and thank you for volunteering
