So sick of gun violence

another shooting that ended up at a school…and here in Tampa a serial killer struck again, shooting an old man on his way to volunteer at a soup kitchen at 4:30 in the morning, in the back of the head. I hate this world and don;t want to be a part of it any more

And we are all so jaded to it now…that neither of them registered on our humanity radar anymore

Truly sickening when you start counting days and thinking… the next one will happen in 3,2,1 day…

It is sickening. And senseless. I know the TV pundits all have reasons why but I would actually like to hear from a qualified mental health PROFESSIONAL (not a paid mouthpiece) why we are at this point? The country has had guns for over 2 centuries. I grew up with a loaded shotgun next to the door. I am also comfortable with a knife. NEVER have I been tempted to use either one on a fellow human being. I am the first to admit that I’ve lead a pretty sheltered life, so obviously I’m missing some glaring, obvious reason for this kind of violence. What is making this perfect storm of discontent and hate that grabbing a gun and shooting innocent people becomes the thing to do?

There has always been some that lose it and go on killing sprees.
Motives are secondary, their religion, domestic violence, hearing voices, so much else.

There used to be called axe murderers.
These deranged individuals will use any they can to cause mayhem.

I think that we have more people, so more that go there.
We are in the information age, we hear about it more.

I don’t know what we can do to find them and put them away before they kill. Most seem to be acting fairly normal before they act.

Perspective may help understand better.
Just because some people are evil or crazy doesn’t mean there is something wrong with all.
There is so much good out there also.

I don’t think it is all mental illness. That is getting to be a catch-phrase excuse.

The seeds of this aberration are in our culture: the have’s and the have-nots. Concentrated wealth and power that we have never seen before. The hypocrisy of pastors and priests. The deterioration of ethics. Lies twisted to be an alternative truth. An ego-driven sense of power in gun ownership. Abused children whose damage and pain can only find voice in more violence. The feelings of disempowerment that result in blame of others and a sense of isolation. The ease of bullying in schools, on social media: power and the powerless.

The killings won’t stop just because we want them to. We have to enact CHANGES. Not just the guns, we have to get money out of the grimy paws of politicians, we have to face the reality of the 21st century jobs and skills, we have to call out hypocrisy wherever it hides and expose it and condemn it. We have to put moral priority on sentient life not dollars and cents.

We have to recognize that we are being played, that increasing anger and rage are the tools of the puppeteers.

Ah yes, limit the liberty of some who MIGHT behave badly because everyone having any and all guns their lil teeny tiny Grinchy heart desires is SOOOOOOO much more preferable?
REALLY?!

You’re right.
Cause when it comes down to it, locking people up who MIGHT do something bad is unconstitutional.
So we can’t do that.
And we can’t possibly take guns away from the Good Guys in the attempt to limit the ability of the ‘nuts’ to get one too.
So it’s the perfect non-answer to the problem that will never get solved. And the days between event will get shorter/fewer. As we wring our hands over the fact that ‘we can’t DO anything about it!’

Very interesting. The idea that the gun manufacturer[s] can go to any extent with their advertising, suggesting their product to any and all demographics, even those they should be able to easily predict a portion of will have nefarious reasons to buy the gun**, because their sales are protected such that anything their advertising might incite is legally off limits is very interesting.

Talk about a free pass… Yikes!

**because who has been doing the shooting? White males, many of whom are diagnosed as ‘mentally unwell’ either actually diagnosed by an actual psychiatrist/psychologist/physician… or by the media and gun apologists… and also many of those are involved in domestic violence situations. Hmmmm…

If gun manufacturers get protection from the use of their product for nefarious reasons, why doesn’t Pharma, presently being sued by states and communities for their marketing and distribution of OxyContin etc that lead to mass addiction and crime, also have some protection from what they are also unable to control [how the end user uses the product]

If Pharma isn’t protected from the way they marketed their product as a safe pain killer… which was used off label… why does the NRA and gun manufacturers get protection from a very similar situation with their product?

I’m sick of violence, regardless of the tool being used…

Isn’t that the point of gun control advocates?

I don’t normally comment on current events, but I think the media plays a MAJOR role. Why are we giving titles to every shooting. The vegas shooting was “The worst mass shooting in modern history”…the Texas church shooting was “Largest mass shooting in a church.” Why do they all need titles. It is giving gumption to every other psycho out there to try to gain the next big title. We should make people aware of what is going on, but lets not feed into others’ imaginations. It is the same thing when we give credit to ISIS for terror. Don’t give them credit because that is exactly what they are craving.

Isn’t that same outcome of gun control?

Gun control limits the movement of guns.

Jailing people before offenses occur limits the freedom of PEOPLE.

It really says something about the frequency of these shootings when the president tweets out his condolences and references the wrong event. Last night Trump tweeted out “thoughts and prayers” to the victims of the recent Texas church shooting instead of the California shooting.

"May God be with the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI and Law Enforcement has arrived.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 15, 2017"

The tweet has been deleted, but of course it exists forevermore in the twitterverse.

The mistake is totally understandable though, as sometimes I find it hard to keep track of all of them too.

But if someone drinks Budweiser and then drinks and drives and kills a family, Budweiser doesnt get sued for making a dangerous product. The bar might get sued or the homeowner, but not the company. Anymore than a fertilizer co or Ford etc. its all about the people that misuse the drink, fertilizer, etc. this reminds me of the argument of animal right advocates who say bits are abusive and should be outlawed. Again its not the tool, be it the bit or the gun, but the person who holds the reins or gun, or drives the truck etc. its called individual responsibility. Becoming nonexistent in the USA.

But we may be heading toward compelling people to take their psychiatric meds or mandatory treatment. Ma. Is studying mandatory treatment for addicts. Police or mental health professionals could force someone into treatment. There is also the new digital pill that is aimed at psychiatric illnesses and tells the dr if the pill was taken.

So how is the pharma company and distributer being sued in WVA for the OxyContin disaster there?

And aren’t corporations considered individuals?
