So tell me about Revolution for cats?

I guess I need to get this stuff. Looks like after all this time a few of my poor cats got mild cases of mange.
I have some questions:

Should I apply to all cats even those who do not appear to be affected?
Even to the one that had a bit of an allergic reaction to it? (She scratched hair off spot where it had been applied.)
And most important - can you get the large dog size and divide it up like can be done with Advantage? (I buy 55+ lb dog size and cats under 10 lbs get .4ml and cats over 10 get .8ml.)

My vet won’t really answer me because he wants me to buy from him and at full price. ouch ouch ouch no.

Thanks! And the itchin’ kittens thank you too!

I like Revolution for cats—it’s one of the few flea treatments that still work where I live. I’m certainly not a vet, but I would apply it to everyone. It won’t hurt them and can clear up other mite/parasite problems that you may not know about in addition to mange and fleas.

I buy the XL-dog-sized Advantage and give it to the cats as well, but I don’t know if Revolution can be done that way. I’m sure someone else here will know. Good luck with your kitty!

You can buy the large dog Revolution and split it down for cats but you need to get the dosage from your vet. I have 9 cats. My vet knows I’m on a budget so he doesn’t mind doing stuff like this for me. He told me that they changed the formula for dog advantage so you can’t use it on cats.

I saw that no-cats warning on the new Advantage for Dogs packaging last year and went to speak with my vet about it. He actually called the company last summer and found out that it hadn’t actually changed. Their party line was that the company didn’t want the liability of having people use the dog-branded stuff on cats, but I suspect they realized that a lot of cat owners were paying a lot less by using the dog packages.

Anyway, I’ve still been using it every month on my cats every month, and they’re fine.

I use dog Revolution for my cats. UC Davis Koret shelter medicine division used to have the chart on their website, but they have taken it down. Based on that chart, I buy Revolution for extra large dogs and divide it as follows: Cats less than 5 lbs. get .13 ml, cats 5-15 lbs. get .38, and cats 15.1-22 get .50 ml. I have been treated my cats this way for well over a year, and it works great.

In my area Advantage doesn’t work very well anymore, but I bought the dog Advantage when it did, and used it on cats. Even though it now warns about using it on cats, the ingredients and formula is the same for both.
