Glad she’s feeling better - so her kidney levels were all within normal range, too?
If she has a UTI, she might benefit from more subQ’s every other day or so, especially if she’s not drinking enough - you might ask your vet.
Jingles and hugs!

There is no Stinkeye quite like Kitty Stinkeye!
For you & Naku
So Naku is feeling much better, does not have a UTI, but she’s edging towards kidney failure. The vet wants to redo her labwork next week. But seriously, she is 21, which is just an incredible age for a cat.
And… I brought home Gracie this afternoon! She’s a friendly, slightly hyper, talkative cat who warmed up to me very quickly at the shelter. They adopted her out in 2010 when she was a half grown kitten, and she was returned last fall. I don’t know why, but she was a pretty “sad case” at first, until they got her hyperthyroidism under control. She looks like Naku but is about twice as big.
Of course, she has been mostly hiding at the back of a closet since I brought her home, but I’m sure she’ll come out of her shell after a few days. She’s confined to the kitchen/mudroom for now.
I’m so sorry you’ve had such heartbreak recently with your animals. Good to hear Naku is feeling better. I hope Gracie feels at home soon and gives Naku some nice kitty companionship.
Gracie being utterly charming last night. Please excuse the condition of the floor…
She has big eyes and huge ears, short legs and a very short tail. Her hind end is a little funky structurally, like maybe she got hit by a car or had poor nutrition as a kitten. It’s no problem for her, though.
This morning she was hiding again. I finally found her squeezed into a shelf about 6 inches high. Touched the part of her I could see, and she immediately turned around and poked her head out and said hi! And then came out for some luvs.
Aww, look at that face! She knows she’s got it made.
So… 6 days in and I’m in love! Gracie is a character. She’s a talker and a pest and will steal your food if you let her. She’s very neat and tidy. She loves to play, and look out the window watching the birds at the feeder. She drinks out of the kitchen sink, but unlike past cats, she goes all the way in so she’s completely in the sink.
She still hides, but she gives herself away - if you call her name anywhere near her hiding place, she will meow. And now she always emerges.
I noticed she was limping, and in her vet records it says that she broke a toe in 2017 and her owner chose not to have it treated (splint for 6 weeks, or amputate it.) It does bother her at times – usually when she’s been jumping onto and off of counters, tables, etc. There’s no stopping her, though.
She is 12, almost 13, but you’d never guess it.
DH is coming around to her. He misses Visitor so much, but he’s got a soft heart. Unfortunately Gracie bothers his allergies more than Visitor did, but we’re working on mitigating that.
That picture is a study of a cat in pure content!! I love her already.
How is our Lady Naku doing? Hoping she is feeling better after that UTI.
Naku turned out not to have a UTI, but her kidneys are starting to fail. She is on Mirataz now to get her appetite up – she was down to about 5 pounds 4 ounces, which is underweight for her; she should weigh 6 pounds. She’s actually doing quite well, considering her age. She spends most of her time under her cat tree next to the baseboard heaters.
I totally missed the “not” in your post, somehow. That’s what I get for checking on COTH first thing in the morning before the coffee kicks in…
I am sorry to hear about the kidney failure diagnosis. Hoping she gets her appetite back and enjoys catching some sunny rays next to the heater.
Gracie is gorgeous - the very picture of a cat who knows she’s got it made.
Hugs and jingles for Naku.
Have you tried Purina’s allergen-reducing cat food? My sister reports some success with that after having to bring a cat indoors (FIV) with allergic household members.
I love her dark nose.
That food is one of the things we’re thinking of trying.
Gracie is just gorgeous. I love her plush coat.
Jingles and hugs for Miss Naku and you.
she looks like she escaped the Henson muppet workshop.
Guys… I think Gracie got outside, sometime today. I was at work, so it could only have happened when DH left to take the truck in for service. We have a doorbell cam, he’s looked at the recording from when he left, and while there’s no cat in it, the image wouldn’t capture things right at foot level…
OMG… Just as I was typing this, I heard a rattle and then the standard “mip” she says… And HERE SHE IS!!! Damn cat!!!
OH! That little brat. You were probably running thru the house calling her and she sat there and watched. At least that’s what mine do. Stinker!
Most definitely. The house is cluttered and there’s all kinds of places to hide. But this is 4 hours of my life I’ll never get back!
OMG! I hate when that happens - you want to throttle them and hug them at the same time!
Last year during a cold snap, someone posted on our local Lost and Found FB page about her new kitten that had gotten outside. She was frantic, kitten was about 10 weeks, it was in the teens outside. A few hours later, she posted that after coming inside from looking, the kitten had come trotting up the stairs from the basement, where she’d already looked.
Sad update: in about 30 minutes I am taking Naku to be put to sleep. She has lived a good long life and is really declining now.
In better news, Gracie got her radioactive iodine treatment last Monday and seems to be responding, but her T4 was so high that she may need a second treatment in a few months. I took her to the vet yesterday because she wasn’t eating much, which can happen about a week after the treatment. They got her all fixed up and she’s fine now. Given how nuts she became after a month of no hyperthyroid meds, I really hope the iodine treatment works. She was jittery, started getting aggressive, and the meowing, OMG the neverending meowing.
Naku in better days:
