Softride boots, keeping them on

Hi,
Looking for creative ideas to keep too big softride boots on a mini. He’s a rescue that experienced severe hoof neglect, we’ve been working on him for ~2 years but his feet will never be able to be a normal length/shape. His legs are not straight as a result of no hoof care. The one size up seems like the best answer, but they are too big side to side. I am pretty sure he’ll lose them with any creative activity, They definitely help his comfort level, had any one tried vet wrap for stickiness? Vet is coming tomorrow for another set of x rays, this flare seems to be cold weather related. It’s supposed to be warmer this week, so hopefully that will help. Thanks in advance for ideas!

How big is too big? Is he turned out with them on? Any pics? I think pics would be the best to get a good idea of what you’re working with. I had no issues with a full size horse wearing some that were slightly too large except with twisting. If the Velcro is coming undone, duct tape usually works well.

I’ll try to get a better close up picture at night check. He will willingly walk to get food and water with these on. It’s a foaling stall with a friend for the next week, but he lost it when I took her out to walk. It’s a major win since he didn’t move under the same circumstances this AM, but he got a back boot off.

Get a pool noodle and cut segments from it that could be duct taped in on the sides as filler. Or if you a piece of soft neoprene equipment you are no longer using cut out filler pieces from it.

Cavello makes pastern wraps…they will take up a bit of room.

Yoga mat cut up and then thin layer of vet wrap. It’s easier than it sounds.

You can also add duct tape around the outside to secure more. We did that for my guy when the fit wasn’t quite right

Thank you everyone! These are really helping his comfort level. Great news is that he hasn’t rotated significantly since I rescued him. I’ve got vet wrap on his back feet since those are what he manages to get out of and where his feet are most distorted. He should be in a smaller size but with the twist in his foot/leg I don’t know if it’s possible, the larger one lets the boot land flat even though his hoof doesn’t.
Edited to add I have pool noodles on order and I may use this to justify a new yoga mat for me!
