solar outdoor arena lights?

Has anyone had any luck putting solar lights around their outdoor arena? I am hoping to keep riding this winter but can’t ride until after dark, don’t need a ton of light, just enough to hack, and my boy is pretty sensible. Thanks for any advice, I am curious if anyone is doing this…

how big is your arena and what kind of riding do you want to do?

Horses see fine in the dark, so you only need enough so you can tell where the corners and sides are, unless you are jumping.

The smaller solar lights for porches, they sell several to a pack, would work for that if the arena is not huge.

Here is a thread from 2017 with comments, tweaks and at least 1 active link to solar lights on Amazon. Good luck!

I like the motion detector solar lights. Amazon.com

I was looking at something like this, so you could mount it on a pole and turn it on when you needed it with a remote.

As far as solar motion lights, these are handsdown, the best thing I’ve ever seen. I put them up a year ago and they survived a year of horrific weather here in Indiana, with torrential rains and sub zero temps. They only work with motion, so they can be super bright. We put them anywhere we need light, such as a walking path, by all the pasture hydrants, the driveway gate, the manure pile. I’m not sure if they’d provide enough continuous light for riding since if you got too far away they’d turn off.

Not to highjack but I have been looking for a solar dawn to dusk light, basically something thatll stay on at night so I could have my pony in a little lot attached to his stall but be able to see him from the house at night when I get worried or paranoid about him in the middle of the night. Dawn to dusk solars may work great for OP as well for her arena!!!

We have a set of that second link and they put out very bright light, easily 50’+ in front of them hung at around 6-7’ high.

That first link looks interesting.

There is a free article on The Horse.com on light and how it affects horses. Flipping a switch on in the middle of the night upsets their sleep cycle. Red lights are recommended.

Thank you everyone for the replies! Checking out the options now…

I wonder if they make red solar lights? Or if i could spray paint a light coating of red over the light itself then? I wont get power to my barn till at least spring, at this point I want light in the morning more than Im worried about water out there lol.
