Are there any solar powered dusk to dawn lights that will do the job as a flood light over a barn door? My old mercury vapor light has bitten the dust. Trying to avoid the expense of hiring an electrician to replace it but would really like some light over the door!
I have a motion activated solar light over my barn. It works well in the summer, and come on in the evening after the sun goes down & in the morning before the sun comes up.
In the winter, however, there is not enough light to charge it for the whole night, so I never have light in the morning. If the day is very cloudy, it doesn’t charge at all, and I don’t have light in the evening either.
I think mine cost about $60, and it is still worth it to me. It’s been up about a year or so. It puts off a good bit of light, enough to pull down and open hay bales at least. I don’t have electricity at my barn at all, and I just do my best to plan around the times I know I won’t have light.
I’m not sure the brand, but there were several that seemed comparable in that price range. I’m sure there are nicer lights that last longer.
We have a security light over our barn door. Got it from Lowes. My husband installed it, so it can’t be too difficult. lol
Actually, we’ve installed 3 of them. They only last a couple of years, but aren’t too expensive and my husband was able to install them. However, the effectiveness of the light, when working, was perfect.
