Solar Shed Lights - any suggestions?

As it starts to get dark earlier and earlier every day, I’ve started thinking about how best to light up my mare’s shed when I can’t make it before sunset. I love my headlamp for cleaning outside but it would be nice to have a solid light in the shed as well. It’s 12x20 and even though it has electric we try to just use it for the water heaters in the winter since it gets overloaded very easily. As a very generous estimate, It’ll only be used maybe 2-3 hours at a time, most likely even less than that. So I’m thinking a solar light would be a good option.

I’ve looked on Amazon but most seem to be motion activated. I found this one, but I’m concerned about the pull switch being used as a toy by curious noses. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013HPNRY…ogi&th=1&psc=1

Has anyone found a great solar light that works well for them?

if you have the electric power there use LED lights, those things draw nearly zero power … a 9 watt LED will produce the same light as a 60 watt bulb

I had a really fabulous one installed several places on my old farm. I had posted about it here. Although when I followed the link to the Amazon page where I purchased said lights, it is now a page selling overpriced USB adapters, even though all the reviews for the light are still there. These fly by night vendors and manufacturers selling through Amazon are bizarre.

Not helpful! I’m sorry. It was a really great light. I think it was called the Micro Solar light.

Mine had a pull string but I rigged it up as high as I could still reach it. Never was a problem.

I have a 12’x24’ shed too far from electrical source to make anything other than solar work. Last year I purchased this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0…?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and positioned it on the left interior wall facing into the shed. It’s plenty bright enough to clean by (I use it to check and adjust the net on the hay bale). Comes with a remote control - I just use on/off, but it does have different brightness levels and you can set it to turn on at dusk and off at dawn. For $25, it’s been great!

Do you recall the brand? Those look great!

You might try battery powered as the LED lights use so little power.

Something like this? The remote control appears to have On/Off in addition to auto. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q2X4ST2

I have not used that one.

The ones we have are similar but are motion activated only: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07STZD17G

I don’t have lights in the run-in, but I usually just wear a headlamp, it’s plenty of light pointed right where I need it.

If I do need light in the paddock (colic or something) then we have Milwaukee battery operated ones that work great.

An in-between option is to hang a battery operated lantern. It’s not bright enough for veterinarian to work by, but is fine if I’m sweeping out or fixing the hay net or something like that.

I use these

The remote control is great if you have it hung high. They provide a ton of light, and the light lasts for a few hours. We have one in our chicken coop, and I use them in my horse trailer for camping.

Thanks! These are ones I have and have held up since February with twice daily use! https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-…L-HD/310461922

I bought these and use one in my chicken coop and one in the feed area of the barn: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TCC1GMP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They put out a decent amount of light for as small as they are. I have only used them for a few minutes at a time, but the reviews say they can last for hours. The brightness is adjustable. I mostly wanted them because of the timer feature (I wanted to be able to turn on the light for the chickens when I close their coop at night and have it stay on for a set amount of time before turning off automatically).

Now that I visit the link again it says these are unavailable, but there are a lot of similar options.
