Anyone know how well it works?
That’s interesting. The only difficulty is periodically emptying and cleaning the tank, which honestly you can’t do well in the dead of winter anyway. I know they refer to leaving space for the drain in the tank. I’ve never actually used the drain in the bottom of my Rubbermaid tank, I’ve always been afraid that it would leak.
I have taken a 2" thick piece of upholstery foam, slid it into black plastic contractor bags and bungee-corded it around the tank. We don’t need to use our tank heater during the days unless it’s below 20, and even then we’ll get only a thin coat of ice without a heater unless it’s single digits. I haven’t added a cover yet. I’m thinking of adding a large piece of floating insulation board. That should help insulate the water, and by floating and moving around should help prevent ice from forming.
