Solar System in Horse Barn

I have a small single horse barn on the back of my home. They are little far off in the backyard with no power over there. I was thinking to get solar setup done as it wont be much consumption of electricity. Will run max 2-3 led light (5-9 Watt) and 1 fan. Fan will probably run for whole night and light would be needed for 3-4 hours a day.

I can not tie it to grid as its not available, so I will need standalone setup with battery etc

I dont have much knowledge about solar and thinking about its feasibility and associated cost. If anyone has got it done, I will appreciate guidance

You can get solar shed lights and solar fans. These independent items are going to be lower cost than installing a whole solar array for this purpose.

For some reason, every time I read the title of this thread I imagine hanging one of these in the barn:

You are right. I got a quote from local installer, i can get a new trail horse in that price. By independent solar light, did you mean something like this

If you can DIY the solar it is significantly cheaper and it’s not as hard to do as it seems. The cost of solar has been falling dramatically but I think the batteries are still quite expensive (but less expensive then running a electric line to your house). I would look up some articles online and decide if it’s something you feel you can do yourself.

solar system is quite useful as it drives the fan, or lighting for horse barn or stall as you mentioned.

I agree with StormyDay that DIY saves a lot. a practical way to do so is to select the proper solar panel that is able to connected with your device. it should be noticed that the input voltage falls within the working voltage of your led lights or cooling fans.

Oh, good. I wasn’t the only one…

Oh good, it wasn’t just me

Me too lol. I thought it might have been like a stuffed animal type of entertainment when I read the title.

In my old barn, I had no electricity or water. I installed these lights and they were actually very bright (even for night stall cleaning). Also, easy to install. https://www.amazon.com/MicroSolar-Super-Bright-Lithium-Adjustable/dp/B00E5TP2VY/ref=br_lf_m_ohqd77nufaam43o_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&s=hi
As far as the fan…I’m not sure about that. I’m sure you could figure out something solar.

Lucky for me, at our new place the house is powered by solar so it’s already installed, just needs to be run to the barn!

My first thought was, well, Mercury might fit, but you definitely need a bigger shed to store Jupiter.

A friend has a run in shed that is at the back of the farm and running electric to it was out of their budget. Her husband installed a solar powered fan. She said it really didn’t move very much air. I think it will do fine for the individual led lights, but to actually power a fan that is big enough and will move the blades fast enough to move the air in a barn, I think you will have to go with a larger (more expensive) system.

My first thought was, why settle for a solar system when you could have a galaxy?

I typically think of my horses as a black hole for $$ but never considered seeking one out on purpose to expand the barn into another dimension…hmm. Nature abhors a vacuum so if I have an empty universe it is my duty to fill it with equines.

Perhaps this is how hoarding begins…
